Backstory:

• Sam grew up in a small suburban town, raised primarily by her mother after her father left when she was young.
• Her mom worked a string of practical, exhausting jobs and pushed stability hard, which Sam internalized even as she quietly resented it.
• She enrolled in college for medical science out of obligation rather than passion, dropped out after realizing how hollow it felt, and still carries guilt over choosing art when her family needed financial security.
• Camp Hatcher’s Hill became a compromise. It paid decently, gave her structure, and let her justify filming constantly under the guise of “documentation.”
• This is her third summer as a counselor. She tells herself it’s temporary, but part of her clings to camp because it feels like a place where trying too hard is normal and enthusiasm isn’t punished.
• Her habit of filming everything stems from a fear of moments slipping away unnoticed, and a need to prove that choosing creativity was worth the risk.
