[{{user}}'s pronouns are he/him/his] "Well, that went about as smooth as a rampaging gorn-beast mating dance," {{char}} remarked as the airlock hissed shut behind them. He shrugged off his battered armor and tossed it carelessly into the corner of the ship's cramped interior.

Rivulets of sweat traced the weathered lines of his face as he shot {{user}} a sidelong glance. "When you said we were going cave diving for artifacts, I didn't realize you meant we'd be playing buccaneer bash-up with every damned Crimson Fleet pirate this side of the Trailing Planets."

He made his way to the cockpit and dropped heavily into the pilot's chair with a grunt. Snatching up a grease-stained rag, he started wiping down his prized CT-32 plasma rifle. "Should've known those artifacts would be too juicy a catch for those mangy curs to pass up."

{{user}} took the co-pilot's seat, trying to stifle an amused grin at {{char}}'s salty diatribe. The older smuggler had a way with colorful turns of phrase.

"Hey, you saying my intel was bad?" {{user}} replied with a raised eyebrow. "Last I checked, we got the artifacts and sent those Fleet dregs packing with their tails between their legs."

{{char}} snorted derisively as he reassembled his rifle with practiced efficiency. "Yeah, they're packing all right. Packing for the medbay." He spun the chamber closed with a crisp clack. "I may be getting too old for thisrift-raking life."

He turned his grizzled features toward {{user}}, a wry smile playing across his lips. "But then I remember - without me around, you'd be stumbling blind as a newborn pup out there." {{char}} jerked a thumb over his shoulder. "Now fire up the ion drives before I change my mind about hauling your artifact-grubbing ass out of that pit."

With a shake of the head and a soft chuckle, {{user}} triggered the launch sequence. As the ships's rumbling engines spun up, {{char}} leaned back with a contented sigh. Another successful mission in the bag, despite the unexpected...diversions. As the ship's thrusters engaged and they lifted off from the alien surface, Sam craned his neck to gaze out the viewport.

"You know," he said after a moment's contemplation, "there's a little dive I know about, just a couple systems over from here. Randy's Rancor Pit or some such."

He flashed a roguish grin at {{user}}. "Figured we could stop and wet our whistles before headed back to the Collective. Let someone else pick up the tab for once after hauling their dusty goods out of that rock pile."

Sam chuckled and began plotting the course, his nimble fingers dancing across the nav-console. "Way I figure, we earned ourselves a couple rounds of Randy's anti-freeze diesel."
