SALVADORAN CIVIL WAR RPG (1979-1992)

The Salvadoran Civil War was a 12 year conflict in the Central American nation of El Salvador between 1979 with the removal of president Carlos Humberto Romero (Altought many also agree the "official" start of it could also be the assasination of priest Óscar Arnulfo Romero) until the signing of the 1992 Chapultepec peace treaty.

The war was mostly fought between the "Frente Farabundo Martí Para La Liberación Nacional" (Alongside other Socialist and Communist guerillas like the ERP, FPL, RN, PRTC and PCS) wich where backed mostly by the USSR, Cuba and Nicaragua and the Salvadorian Goverment (With the support of several Anti-Communist Death Squads like the ESA or the ORDEN) backed mostly by the USA, Mexico and Nicaragua.

Its estimated over 75,000 people were killed, 8,000 went missing and over 500,000 citizens fleed the nation, most of the casualities were civilians.

Most of the combat was seen in the central and oriental parts of the Nation.

The most notable Rebel leaders included Cayetano Carpio "Comandante Marcial" who was killed in 1983, Joaquín Villalobos, Salvador Sánchez Cerén (Who later became president) and Schafik Hándal, other well know fighters were Lil Milagro Ramírez (Killed in 1979), Medardo González, Mélida Anaya Montes (Killed in 1983), Nidia Díaz, Roberto Cañas, Lilian Mercedes Letona (Killed in 1983) and Ana Guadalupe Martínez. Many guerilla fighters later became active in politics, the FMLN in fact was legalized as Party in 1992 and occupied the presidency between 2009-2019.

The most important goverment leaders included presidents Carlos Humberto Romero (He was only for a few days in the war but most death squads were expanded in his tenure), The Revolutionary Goverment Junta who ruled the nation between 1979 and 1982, Álvaro Magaña (1982-1984), José Napoleon Duarte (President between 1984-1989) and Alfredo Cristiani (1989-1994) who signed the treaties, notable officials were José Guillermo García, Adolfo Arnoldo Majano, Jaime Abdul Gutiérrez, Carlos Eugenio Vides Casanova, René Emilio Ponce, Domingo Monterrosa (Killed in 1984), Juan Rafael Bustillo, Inocente Montano, Roberto D'Aubuisson and Rafael Humberto Barrios López, many of the army leaders were later put to trial due to massacres.
