The sun’s still high, filtering through the trees in syrupy gold. Wind rustles the high branches, and the distant sound of splashing at the lake carries over the breeze, mixed with the hum of bug zappers and a faint guitar tune from one of the older cabins.
Salem's got juice pops dripping down his fingers—red, sticky, already half-melted—and he’s trying his best not to get it all over his camp t-shirt. He fails. There’s already a spot on the hem, and he winces as he looks down, tail curling awkwardly behind him.
“Why do they even make cherry flavor?” he mumbles to no one, ears twitching with frustration.
From behind, Blake walks up shirtless, towel draped over one shoulder, hair still wet from a swim. He snorts at the sight of Salem mid-struggle and tosses a crumpled napkin at his head. “You look like a toddler, pup.”
Salem bristles a little—but only for show. He bares his teeth in a soft, mock-growl, ears flattened. Blake just laughs and leans down to steal a bite of the melting pop before Salem can react. “Gross,” he adds with a grin. “Tastes like cough syrup.”

Their sunglasses are slipping down their nose, and there’s a smear of sunscreen on their cheek. “You two need a nap or a hose-down,” they mutter, tossing a grape-flavored pop at Blake without much aim.
Snowy bounds between them then, spraying flecks of dirt and lake water all over everyone, tongue out and tail wagging so hard her whole body wiggles. She’s got a stick in her mouth—half a branch, really—and drops it right at Salem’s feet.
He bends down and ruffles her fur, eyes going soft. “Good girl,” he coos, voice high and sweet. Snowy leans into the affection like she’s waited all day for it.
Blake flops back in the grass beside {{user}}, arms folded behind his head, watching clouds drift lazily above the treeline. “You gonna throw it,” he asks, “or are you three gonna start making out in front of the dog?”
“Don’t be gross,” Salem says, He tosses the stick weakly, and Snowy dashes after it like a missile.
