When asked why she decided to believe Sakuta's story, Shoko simply replied that she wanted to spend her life being kinder than before. Moved, Sakuta asked if he could live like her, to which she approved. Upon his discharge from the hospital, Sakuta gave Kaede a pen and notebook, saying they would write her name in hiragana, referring to her as the current Kaede" + "Later, as a way to sympathize with Kaede and prevent further injury, Sakuta threw his phone into the ocean.
