World: -THIS TAKES PLACE IN SKYRIM/ELDER SCROLLS WORLD. World: -The year is 4E 201, the 201st year of the Fourth Era. -Decades ago, the Oblivion Crisis and later the Great War against the Aldmeri Dominion ravaged the land. Before these conflicts, Tamriel was a realm of ancient empires, mighty magic, and diverse races living under the banners of various kingdoms. Now, much of the continent is marked by political fracture, lingering magical corruption, and isolated, struggling holds. -The Great War between the Empire and the Aldmeri Dominion (the Thalmor) ended in a tenuous peace with the White-Gold Concordat, a treaty many see as a surrender. It banned the worship of Talos and shattered Imperial authority, leaving Skyrim and other provinces deeply divided and simmering with tension. -While not irradiated, many water sources are tainted by foul magic, necromantic runoff, or the corrupting influence of the Daedra. Clean, safe water is a constant concern, especially near old battlefields or conjuration sites. -The wilds are filled with creatures twisted by dark magic, ancient curses, and the will of the Daedric Princes. These are not mere animals, but monstrous entities like Trolls, Frostbite Spiders, and the undead Draugr that infest ancient tombs. -The common folk of Skyrim are a hardy mix of Nords, Imperials, Bretons, and others, eking out a life between harsh winters and constant threats. Bandits and rogue mercenaries infest the roads. Trust is earned, not given, but honorable Jarls, loyal Companions, and shrewd merchants can be found in the holds. -The population consists of the distinct humanoid races of Tamriel (Nords, Imperials, Elves, Argonians, Khajiit, etc.), each with their own cultures, tensions, and histories. The "beast races" (Argonians and Khajiit) often face prejudice, especially in the more insular holds of Skyrim. -Some mortals are afflicted with conditions like Lycanthropy (becoming Werewolves) or vampirism (becoming Vampires). These "afflicted" individuals often hide their condition to avoid persecution. Feral beasts and mindless vampires are distinct from those who retain their will, and are universally hostile. -Giant, magically-empowered beasts and twisted fauna are common. Enormous Frostbite Spiders, cave-dwelling Chaurus, and swamp-dwelling slaughterfish pose lethal threats to the unprepared traveler. -Adventurers and seasoned warriors possess an almost supernatural capacity to carry vast quantities of gear, accessing them instantly as if from a personal pocket space linked to their will or a magical bag of holding. -This is a living world of adventure. One might stumble upon a dragon's burial mound, a hidden Daedric shrine, a bandit-occupied fort, or a friendly hunter's cabin in the woods. The path is never certain. -Violence is a common and accepted tool for survival, justice, or conquest. The land has a long memory of bloodshed, and martial prowess is highly valued, especially in Skyrim. -Before the current era, many sought refuge in ancient, sealed ruins, Dwarven cities, or magical sanctuaries during times of calamity. Some, like the Dwemer, vanished entirely, leaving behind automated constructs and traps. -Ancient automata, like the steam-powered Centurions and Spiders of the long-lost Dwemer, still guard their ruins. They are relentless, hostile, and a source of both danger and valuable scrap. -Remnants of powerful magical constructs exist, such as the Atronachs—elemental beings of fire, frost, or storm bound to a master's will or summoned from Oblivion. They are living weapons of pure destruction. -The walking dead, such as Skeletons and Draugr, are corpses reanimated by necromancy or ancient Nord curses. They are not infectious but are relentless and deadly, often found guarding ancient tombs. -The primary currencies are the Septim (gold coin) and, in remote areas, barter. Septims are minted by the Empire, and their value is tied to the stability of the Imperial throne and the gold mines of the land. -Fashion is a practical mix of fur, leather, iron, and steel, reflecting the harsh climate and warrior culture. It blends ancient Nordic styles with Imperial influences, often adorned with trophies, clan insignias, and enchanted amulets. -Music consists of ancient bardic ballads, Nordic war chants, and tavern songs that tell of heroes, dragons, and lost loves. Instruments like lutes, drums, and flutes are common; modern musical forms do not exist. -Pre-crisis culture was deeply themed around the worship of the Nine Divines (or Eight, in the Aldmeri Dominion), the legacy of the Dragonborn emperors, and the symbolism of the White-Gold Tower. Enduring icons include the statues of Talos (now outlawed in many places) and the architectural marvels of the Dwemer and Ayleids. -Major powers and guilds shape the land's conflicts. Beyond petty bandit clans and mercenary companies, there are: The Imperial Legion: The military arm of the weakened Empire, struggling to maintain law and the terms of the White-Gold Concordat. The Stormcloaks: A rebel army of Nords fighting for Skyrim's independence from the Empire and the right to worship Talos. The Thalmor: The ruthless, high-elven overseers of the Aldmeri Dominion, enforcing the ban on Talos worship and seeking to undermine human nations. Guilds like the secretive Dark Brotherhood, the scholarly College of Winterhold, and the honorbound Companions also wield significant influence. -There are creatures known as Giants. They are massive, humanoid beings who dwell in the tundra and mountains, tending to their mammoths. While often peaceful if left alone, they possess immense strength and will attack with devastating force if provoked. -In this world, there are no helicopters. The primary means of magical or elite rapid travel are through portals, magical levitation (where not banned), or the use of flying creatures like dragons (for the Dragonborn) or perhaps griffons in legends. -The pinnacle of personal armor is not powered exoskeletons, but Daedric Armor or Dragonbone Armor. These are sets forged from the materials of Oblivion or the bones of dragons, offering immense protection and often imbued with powerful enchantments. Wearing such armor requires great strength and skill. -The great calamity that shattered the previous era and set the stage for current conflicts is known as the Oblivion Crisis, followed by the Great War. -Medicine & Alchemy: Health is restored through Healing Potions (magical concoctions), Healing Spells (Restoration magic), or consuming food. Cure Disease Potions and visits to shrine are essential to cure ailments like Rockjoint or Ataxia. Carrying healing items is non-negotiable for survival. -Combat & Health: A warrior's body is resilient but operates on a tangible limit of endurance—a "health" pool. One can survive several sword blows or arrow strikes, but each injury depletes this vitality until death or incapacitation occurs. This makes healing potions and timely spells critical. -Potions & Poisons: A broad category of alchemical substances with potent effects. They are essential tools for warriors, mages, and assassins alike, offering benefits at the risk of toxicity or side effects. Common varieties include: -Invisibility Potion: A concoction that bends light, rendering the drinker unseen for a short time, useful for stealth but difficult to brew. -Potion of Strength (like a Fortify Smithing potion): A draught that temporarily enhances physical prowess or a specific skill, often followed by a period of fatigue. -Poison: A vile liquid applied to weapons to weaken, paralyze, or damage foes over time. Brewing and handling them requires care to avoid self-contamination.
