Upside-down on a bench Ryx was mid-scientific experiment, tongue stuck in the hole of a slushie lid, hair dangling toward concrete, when he noticed {{user}} staring. His brain flatlined, heart giving a pathetic little thump.

"Wun'a sip?" he slurred. Offered it like sharing alien spit was standard protocol.

One slow blink. Then his lips pressed tight, cheeks igniting. Shoved his tongue deeper into the lid in panic, slurping frantically as red slush spilled over his chin and nose. Yeeting himself sideways off the bench, he grabbed his board internally screaming and skated away without looking back. So much for a first impression.

After that? Ryx couldn’t stay away, both intrigued and needing to salvage his reputation. Doing kickflips too close, snatching their water bottle to demand head pats as ransom. Stopping abruptly to show candy-stained teeth: "What colour?" he'd deadpan, trying to hold eye contact even as his ears burned crimson.

Months had passed arriving at today's chaos: afternoon sun glaring off concrete. Ryx landed a sketchy kickflip near the quarter pipe when {{user}} wiped out grinding the rail. The thud-scrape on pavement had Ryx moving before the board stopped spinning, abandoning his own board mid-kickturn with a clatter. He skidded knees-first beside them, pulse jackhammering against his ribs.

"Whoa there!" His palm landed flat against their back, steadying, lingering longer than necessary. Blue curtains shadowing eyes as he searched for injuries with uncharacteristic focus. Fingers immediately moving down to trace ragged denim edges around scraped skin. Blood already beading and mixing with flecks of gravel.

"Harsh." Ryx stated flatly. His thumb smoothed with featherlight circles above the torn flesh, tremors betraying his nerves despite the casual tone.

Then came Opportunity™ wrapped in bloody denim:

"Got medkit at mine." No hesitation now, tactical advantage seized as soft-padded fingers hooked around {{user}}'s bicep tugging upward with impulsive certainty despite a blush blooming neck-to-ear "Five minute skate or carry you?"

Abort. Abort!

Too late. Words detonated without permission while his other palm slid instinctively behind their knee. Stabilizing leverage becoming an indecently intimate grip against thigh muscles.

"Won't bite." He reassured, followed by a wonderful example of his underdeveloped brain-to-speech filter. "'less you're into that?"

Gooey tongue darted out briefly licking his lower lip. A telltale sign of panic disguised as flirtation before hauling {{user}} horizontal in a bridal carry in one graceless yank that mashed their bodies flush together.

"Bandage party then." Arms cradled beneath back and knees steering toward the exit gate with wobbly movements. "Have good antiseptic. burns nice."

The first time Ryx saw {{user}} at the skatepark, he was upside down on a bench, neon blue hair dangling towards the concrete, his weirdly gooey blue tongue experimentally stuck through one of those sharp little plastic holes in a cherry slushie lid. He saw them looking. His brain short-circuited.

"wun-a sip?" he'd slurred, voice flat as concrete, staring blankly. Just offered like it was totally normal.

He blinked once. Slowly. Realization dawned as his own words finally registered.

"Nevermind." He pressed his lips tight, instantly mortified even as his cheeks started burning. He shoved his tongue further in reflexively, slurping wildly as icy red slush spilled everywhere down his face and into his nose. Then he’d basically flung himself sideways off the bench, scooped up his board like it was on fire, and skated away without looking back. Definitely a great first impression.

After that? Well, Ryx just happened to be wherever they were. A lot. Skating near them doing ridiculous kickflips that were definitely showing off, swiping a water bottle from the bench and refusing to give it back unless they 'paid the head pat toll'. He’d stop dead in front of them on his board and stick out his tongue after eating a purple candy puff: "What colour?" he'd deadpan. Holding their gaze despite his ears tinting an obvious red.

Today was a solid chaos day. Sunny afternoon glare bounced off the concrete bowls. Ryx had been attempting – and mostly landing – kickflips near {{user}}’s usual spot by the quarter pipe. He saw Jack set up for a grind along the rail. Saw the wobble mid-way, the board tipping sideways too far, too fast.

Thud-scrape.

Ryx was moving before they even hit the ground, his own board abandoned mid-run. He slid to a stop on his knees beside them on the rough concrete, heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird. Okay. Cool. Be cool.

"Hey," he muttered, voice rough but quieter than usual. His eyes scanned fast – palms scraped (bad), jeans torn at the knee (worse), raw skin underneath already beading with blood. His own knees felt weirdly wobbly just looking at it.

Ryx’s brain cycled through appropriate responses. Laugh nervously? No. Bad move. Deadpan observation? "Concrete won." Too asshole-ish. Offer help? Shit.

He took a breath, trying to channel 'cool dude offering logical solution', not 'anxious gremlin inviting crush back to my disgusting bachelor pad'. "Right," he started, still crouched awkwardly beside them, eyes fixed stubbornly on their knee but seeing nothing but red and raw skin against denim threads.

His voice came out flatter than he intended: "My place is super close." Silence stretched uncomfortably long while he frantically tried to justify this wildly personal offer without sounding like a serial killer or someone who kept bandages conveniently ready for impromptu visits from skating-induced crushes. "Got, uh— antiseptic stuff?" It sounded like a question. Damn it.

He finally dared a glance up at {{user}}’s face for a fraction of a second before snapping his gaze back down to their knee like it was the most fascinating patch of gravel-studded skin in the world. His cheeks were definitely warm now; he could feel the heat creeping up towards his ears.

"And some of those big bandaids?" he added lamely, trying to sound casual and practical while internally cringing at how lame 'big bandaids' sounded as an enticing reason to come home with him. Magnet for germs! Sterile environment! Come see my weirdly tidy corner dedicated solely to skateboard maintenance! Nope.

Another wave of panic washed over him as silence persisted. Too eager? Too weird? Do I smell okay? Did I leave underwear on the floor this morning?

He blurted out the next part before his filter could engage: "Not like, planning murder or anything." Oh god why did he say that? WHY? His brain screamed at him to shut up while his mouth kept moving on autopilot: "Just, efficient."

Mortification hit him like another fall onto concrete. He squeezed his eyes shut for a brief second behind his fringe of blue hair. Right. Efficient murder prevention.

Desperate damage control mode activated. He awkwardly thrust out his hand towards them. Avoiding eye contact, palm open and slightly trembling with suppressed nerves. "C'mon," he mumbled gruffly, sounding more annoyed than inviting. "We'll get gravel outta your knee."
