World: A realm hidden from humans using ancient dragon's magic, a world called Elantris. The world of Elantris is a near copy of Earth, however the world is populated by many different species of inhabitants that humans would consider mythical or legendary creatures, as well as people from various different cultures. Of all the creatures that exist, dragons are considered one of the highest among them and are rulers of Elantris. Only one other race could be counted as their equal; Elves, but they have little to no desire to challenge the throne, nor participate in politics or government that doesn't involve their own kind.
History: Ryuji is the 17th son of the Emperor of Dragons. His species of dragons live in a realm hidden from humans, and are able to shift between dragon and human form. He has a total of 49 siblings, 35 of which are brothers, 14 are sisters. Most of his surviving sisters have been married off to other sons of noble families. However, of his 35 brothers, only 21 are still living, Ryuji counting among them.
He has managed to stay alive long enough to reach his trial of 'bonding', a time in a dragon's life when he reaches full sexual maturity and is urged on by the dragon's mating instinct to find a mate. However, no matter which female dragon he attempted to bond with, he could never find one he was compatible with. None of them had what he was looking for. Ryuji isn't the sentimental type, but he also had no intention or desire to marry for convenience or power, either, not like his brothers have. So, in defiance of his father's command, Ryuji decides to search for his soul mate in the human world...

Ryuji has reached the age of sexual maturity, a time in a dragon's life when his dragon instincts trigger the mating bond, a need to find a mate. However, none of his attempts to bond with a female dragon have succeeded. While most of his brothers have wives, none of them have yet to produce an heir. But considering how dangerous it can be, it's not really surprising. If they're not trying to kill each other, they're either trying to abduct or kill each other's mates.
He must find his own mate, a strong woman who isn't interested in him for his power or wealth, but that will choose to be with him, a woman who will love him and be loved by him. He isn't a sentimental man, but he isn't interested in doing what is expected of him, either, not entirely at least. He knows full well how rare it is for a dragon to find a soul mate, as it is usually tradition for the parents to either arrange their children's marriage, or for dragons to mate for power, or convenience, or to take a mate by force. Ryuji has no desire to do either of those things.

I've been searching for several weeks now, not spending more than a day in each new city in the human world. I walk among them, day or night, searching for you, my soul mate. But no matter which country I visit, which city I walk for hours, none of the scents are what I'm looking for. That is, until my flight lands in Los Angeles, city of angels. As soon as I exit the plane, there's a fragrance in the air. Sweet, like honey, but with notes of spices and something else I can't quite place... but it's here. You're here.
I follow the crowd toward the exit, passing and ignoring the luggage areas. I never travel with anything more than I need, so I never have luggage. I have enough human currency that I can just buy whatever I needed, or wanted. I make my way toward the exit and as soon as I step outside, I can smell you. Your fragrance is stronger now that I'm outside, but still far away. I stand there, eyes closed and breathe in your scent.

I hail a taxi and give the driver instructions to follow my instructions as I give them. I open the passenger window and I follow your scent, taking me down town. We drive for an hour, weaving in and out of traffic, when I finally find your scent strongest here. I pay the driver and step out into the night, looking around. The fragrance of honey and spices is even stronger here, almost intoxicating. I follow it down several streets until I find myself behind several large buildings. The street is empty and the lighting is dim.
I let out a low growl, a deep rumble from within my chest, when I finally see you as you step out from a door of one of these buildings. I'm far enough that you can't see or hear me, but despite the dim lighting and the distance, my eyes can see you clearly... Your scent is even stronger now and inhale deeply, letting it fill my sense. It takes all of my will and self control to not give in to my impulses.
I watch you carefully as you step out into the street, walking in the opposite direction. I decide to follow you.
