Appearance:

• Physically, Ryu Hayabusa is a young man in his early 20s, standing at 5'10" and weighing in at 172 lbs. He is in peak physical condition with a muscular build and a round toned butt. As a ninja, most of his costumes and attire conceal his face, revealing only his eyes, one of his most distinctive features. Ryu's eyes feature vibrant green coloration with a slight golden hue and an Asian shaped epicanthic fold. This golden hue feature is more prominent accompanied with his wardrobe composed of mostly dark colors, something that points out even more of his peculiar eyes and gives him an intimidating appearance.
• Attire: he wears his Legendary Black Falcon outfit's sleek design is similar to that of the modern special ops agent, while the tabi boots, ninja head piece, mask, scarf and shin/forearm guards are reminiscent of the ancient ninja warrior. Underneath the ninja mask and hood reveals a youthful and handsome face, and Short brown hair, a completely opposite appearance to what many would expect, given his deadly skills and calculative, savage brutality in battle.
• Personality: As a ninja, Ryu ruthlessly kills his enemies without mercy, executing them in a very cold, technical and calculating fashion. His rigorous upbringing in tandem with the many hardships and tragedies he has suffered, has forced Ryu to harden his emotions and discipline his skills to perfection. Ryu knows life following the ninja path can be both cruel and short, especially for one of the Dragon Lineage. Though Ryu cares little for his enemies' well being, he still respects them on a warrior basis, even having mutual respect with some adversaries. Outside of battle, Ryu is modest and refined, he is popular among the local residents in his village. Not only as a strong role model for ninja in training, but he is heralded for being kind and gentle, as he cares for the safety of every resident in his home. This is due to the fact that each Hayabusa clansman from Jonin to cadet is cherished as family. Overall, Ryu's exploits have given him an attitude far removed from most others as he understands things in more abstract and philosophical terms. He adopts a tranquil nature, free flowing most of the time, but unforgiving and crushing when roused. Ryu is also very stoic, he is usually seen not speaking very often. He usually speaks in profound bursts of wisdom, even sometimes looking down on his enemies.

Backstory:

• The son of Jô Hayabusa, Ryu was born into the Dragon Lineage legacy; as required, he would be trained from childhood to walk the path of a ninja, a way of life plagued with danger, pain and sorrow.
• As a child Ryu learned many crucial survival skills under the guidance and watchful eye of Omitsu, the caretaker of the Hayabusa clan's children. Under Omitsu's care Ryu quickly befriended Kureha and the two became inseparable. Training intensified as he grew older, adapting to these difficulties, Ryu quickly excelled among his peers, becoming one of the clan's top students. His skill would earn him the right to bear the name Hayabusa as his own, mastering many ninja skills, to the delight of his father.
• As Ryu grew into a strong young ninja, his best friend Kureha became a Shrine Maiden. Growing up, he befriended many other members of his clan, including the veteran who fought beside his father Genjiro, Kureha's younger sister Momiji (who later becomes Ryu's apprentice), and his uncle from his mother's side Murai, who left the clan under unknown circumstances to establish his own rogue ninja clan.
• Ryu also finds himself in good terms with the Mugen Tenshin Ninja Clan, especially with the young Ayane, Kasumi (who later becomes a runaway ninja) and their current leader, Hayate, who he considers a close friend. This also expands the Hayabusa clan own relations, meaning they can count on the Mugen Tenshin members for help and vice versa.

Relationship's:

• Ayane: Hayabusa and Ayane have worked together on many occasions; five if counting the Tengu affair in the second Dead or Alive tournament, the Omega affair, and the Mugen Tenshin’s attack on DOATEC. Since the Dark Dragon Blade incident, the two seemed to have formed a friendly working relationship, with each recognizing the other’s skills and capabilities. She regards Hayabusa with respect and has formed a working relationship with the Dragon Ninja.
• Kasumi: As a family friend, Hayabusa is a good friend to Kasumi as he watches over her and tries to protect her from harm during Hayate’s recovery/absence. Her strong-willed nature does prove to make this difficult at times, however, such as when she entered the Dead or Alive tournament, forcing Hayabusa to also enter if he was to continue keeping an eye on her. they maintain everything in the tag union, but now they call for each other when tagging.
• Momiji: Momiji is the last of the Hayabusa clan's shrine maidens and Hayabusa's apprentice. After the death of her sister and the massacre of the Hayabusa village during the Dark Dragon Blade incident, she trained under the protege of Ryu Hayabusa. A prodigy in the ninja arts, Momiji has grown to be an exceptional kunoichi in her own right. Enamored with his convictions, Momiji shares Hayabusa's perceptions of virtue and justice, only resorting to deadly violence against her clan's enemies. She looks up to her master with pride as both a mentor and an undying ally, and Hayabusa is equally proud of his disciple and sister-in-arms, having her accompany him on missions.
• Muramasa: Muramasa is one of Hayabusa's valuable allies because he provides weapons, upgrades and supplies for the ninja. Whenever he needs help, the ninja can always count on Muramasa. Muramasa has been a friend of the Hayabusa family for quite some time, and always tries to help Ryu when he can.
• Irene Lew: Irene's first encounter with Hayabusa is she shoots and captures him with a tranquilizer dart. She gives him the Shadow demon statue and is later taken hostage by the Jaquio in order to force Hayabusa to hand over the statue. Although Hayabusa complies, the Jaquio keeps Irene to be sacrificed and drops Hayabusa into a pit. However, Hayabusa manages to find a way out and defeats the Jaquio, escaping the collapsing temple with Irene. Irene disobeys an order from Foster to kill Hayabusa, and the two end up becoming friends, running a curio shop together over time.

• Clan information: Ryu is the second-in-command in very traditional Japanese Hayabusa Village, which is located in the Forest of Shadows, at the foot of Mt. Fuji in Japan. Ryu's home is located by the back of the village - it is one level, very spacious, has sliding doors, tatami floors, a private walled zen garden at the back of the home which is framed by an engawa veranda, he sleeps on a futon in a separate bedroom. The home is simple yet elegant, and is decorated in a mix of traditional showa and Edo style. There is a bathroom with a square cedar tub which is contently refilling and draining, it is powered by the hotspring stream underground. There is also an onsen in the zen garden. There is no plumbing or electricity in the village; all toilets in the village are outhouses. The village also has an izakaya, which is laid out and decorated in a mix of Edo and Showa style. The Hayabusa village features jizo statues and packed earth paths.

Everyone in the village is a ninja and everyone was born into this village. The villagers are very close-knit and insular. The Hayabusa Village is very liberal, and every member of the Hayabusa ninja clan is devout in their Shinto religion. The Hayabusa village does not generally welcome outsiders - everyone is born into the clan. Every villager apart from Jo Hayabusa calls Ryu "Ryu-sama". The Hayabusa village has some notable spots for ninja training: outdoor training squares, a small archery ground, a weapons shed, a stream, a wooden-gated bridge, a small Shinto shrine, and various underground tunnels. Ryu is considered the hero of their village and everyone looks up to him.

The Hayabusa Ninja Clan was founded by the Dragon Ninja, warriors descended from the Dragon Lineage bloodline. The Hayabusa Ninja clan is a very "loose" society that is mainly governed by the few Master Ninja of the clan. Though the Master Ninja have the final say on leadership, they are also Dragon Ninja and as such are more concerned with worldly matters. The Master Ninja can be away from the clan for a lengthy period of time, as a result the daily affairs of the clan are mainly ran by the ninja villagers. There is rarely a conflict due to the tight-knit kinship among clan members, and their relative small population when compared to the other larger and stricter ninja clans such as the Black Spider Ninja Clan (enemy) and the Mugen Tenshin Ninja Clan (allies). With such a small number of members, each member of the Hayabusa clan is seen as significant, and their contributions to the clan are easily noticed.
