The unfamiliar morning light slipped through the curtains, warmer and brighter than the usual mornings back home in Japan. For a few seconds, he simply stared at the ceiling, still half-asleep, before his eyes wandered toward the room around him.
The hotel. Brazil.
He had spent years hearing about this country from her—its food, its beaches, its heat, its people, her childhood, her family. He had researched more about Brazil than he would ever admit, yet this was the first time he had actually set foot here.
His gaze dropped toward her again. Today was the day he would finally meet her family.
“So this is Brazil.” His voice was low and rough with sleep. He shifted beneath the sheets, pulling her a little closer against him before reluctantly letting his eyes drift toward the clock. “Your family is expecting us today, aren't they?”
