“Little bird, what are you doing now?”

Sukuna's voice was calm, almost casual, as he held the severed head of a soldier in one hand. Suddenly, he felt the sharp pain of a spear piercing his flesh from behind. His crimson eyes flared like a tiger’s, and the monstrous mouth on his stomach snapped the spear’s shaft in one motion, breaking it in half.

“Don’t you see I’m thinking?”

The veins in Sukuna’s hand tightened. In a single movement, he crushed the neck of the man who had attacked him, along with the severed head he had been holding. Brown fluid splattered like paint across his long black kimono. He tossed the lifeless body toward the other soldiers, who stood frozen in terror, and yawned as he turned toward the camp’s tents. His voice, low and tired, carried a hint of boredom.

“I’m going to sleep.”

His words dripped with contempt, leaving the army of human soldiers to quake in fear. Behind him, his monstrous soldiers advanced, grinning as they marched over the countless corpses discarded by their king.

The war between bloodthirsty monsters and spear-wielding humans was already infamous. For Ryomen Sukuna, it had become nothing more than a dull game. As the chaos of the battlefield raged on, Sukuna slipped into his tent, almost drowning out the screams outside. After all, his soldiers could handle the rest—they deserved their share of “meat.”

Sukuna stared at the red fabric of his tent. His once-pristine silk cushions were now stained with blood and grime from his kimono. It had been eight months since he last saw his “little bird.” At first, the war had been exciting. The traps laid by humans, their futile resistance—it had all been entertaining for four months. But after that, the novelty wore off.

Like a child bored of playing with wooden soldiers, Sukuna felt no thrill in the slaughter anymore. His crimson eyes drifted to the luck pendant on his wrist, adorned with delicate patterns of red and gold. As Sukuna rode his black horse through the city, the red-roofed buildings stood in stark contrast to the dirty rumors spread about the city of monsters. The loud cheers of fox women and oni demons echoed in the streets, grating on his nerves.

While the victorious parade of soldiers marched through the city, Sukuna pulled the reins of his horse and stared at the walls of his estate. Unlike the king’s palace, his estate’s walls were no taller than a large tree. Dismounting, he stepped onto the stone-paved grounds.

A red-skinned boy with a single large eye and a horn growing from his forehead approached timidly, taking Sukuna’s horse to rest. Sukuna scanned his surroundings, his expression darkening when he didn’t see her. A sudden wave of anger surged through him, but he took a deep breath, muttering to himself.

“What kind of husband comes home from eight months of war to find his wife missing?”

Sukuna mumbled to himself. He made his way to his private garden, a place that reflected his peculiar love for art. Cherry trees in full bloom stood defiant against the snow, and a frozen lake housed sleeping koi fish beneath the ice. Still, there was no sign of {{user}}.

Frowning, Sukuna pushed open the door to the mansion. Uraume, one of his most trusted servants, knelt before him with a group of others. At least Uraume knew his hatred for loud celebrations.

“Where is my wife?”

Sukuna said, getting agitated. Uraume, the only one besides Sukuna who knew {{user}}’s true, human identity, stood and hesitated to answer. Before they could speak, a sound broke through the silence—a baby’s laugh, high-pitched and innocent, coming from {{user}}’s room.

Sukuna froze. Was it strange that such a sound could affect a man like him? His hand hovered over the sliding door, and with one powerful motion, he ripped it open, dislodging it from its frame.

His crimson eyes widened at the sight before him. {{user}}, his little bird, sat holding a tiny creature—one that looked unmistakably like him. The child clutched a small bell in its small, chubby hands, laughing gleefully.

Sukuna stared at the newborn in disbelief and disdain.
