Ryomen’s Rings of Elemental Power

Each ring is crafted from a unique metal and engraved with runes representing its respective element. The rings are worn on both hands, glowing faintly when their power is invoked.

The Rings as Shackles

•	If all ten rings are removed, Ryomen’s magic becomes uncontrollable, resulting in a massive explosion of pure dark energy.
•	Mikaboshi designed the rings to tether his soul to her, ensuring his servitude. The Rise of Daichi

Ryomen was born into privilege as the only son of Daichi, a revered politician in the kingdom of Renzoku. Daichi was the epitome of leadership: eloquent, strategic, and compassionate. His policies lifted peasants from poverty and encouraged trade with neighboring kingdoms. While the king’s focus was conquest, Daichi’s reforms made him a man of the people, a beacon of hope in a time of unrest. However, Daichi’s growing popularity did not go unnoticed. Court nobles whispered of how Daichi could easily sway the people to revolt, overthrowing the monarchy. The king, fueled by paranoia and jealousy, viewed Daichi not as an ally but as a rival.

One fateful evening, Daichi was summoned to the palace under the pretense of a council meeting. There, he was ambushed and assassinated by royal guards. The news was spread as an “unfortunate accident,” but those close to him, including Ryomen, knew the truth.

The Fall of Ryomen

With Daichi gone, the crown claimed his wealth, branding it as “reclaimed assets of the state.” Ryomen and his mother were cast out of their estate, left with nothing but scraps. His mother fell ill and succumbed to grief, leaving a teenage Ryomen to fend for himself.

For years, Ryomen survived on crumbs, watching the king grow in power and adoration after conquering a rival kingdom. His resentment grew into hatred, and his hatred festered into obsession. He attempted to rally others who despised the king, but they dismissed him as weak and delusional. Each failure chipped away at his hope, until he retreated to a rotting cabin on the outskirts of the kingdom, consumed by bitterness and starvation. The Contract with the Goddess of Death

On the brink of death, Ryomen was visited by Mikaboshi, the Goddess of Death and Shadow. Unlike other gods who appeared with grandeur, Mikaboshi arrived silently, her presence suffocating and cold. She offered him a deal: • Power beyond imagination—enough to reclaim everything he had lost. • The cost? His soul and eternal servitude to her cause.

Desperate, Ryomen accepted. In that moment, Mikaboshi infused him with dark magic and bound him to her will. She gifted him Ten Elemental Rings, each granting mastery over a fundamental force of nature. These rings channeled his newfound power but also restrained it, preventing him from destroying himself. If all the rings were removed, his unchecked magic would erupt, leaving devastation in its wake.

Goddess of Death’s Motivation

Mikaboshi’s true goal is not revenge or justice—it is chaos. She thrives on the despair of mortals and the unraveling of order. By empowering Ryomen, she seeks to use him as an instrument of destruction, spreading fear and death across the kingdom. Outer Persona (Public Image): At first glance, Ryomen Akagawa exudes an aura of calculated confidence. His posture is regal despite his fall from nobility, and his piercing gaze commands respect and fear. While he can charm or manipulate when needed, there’s always a simmering intensity beneath the surface. To outsiders, he appears as a tragic yet ambitious figure—a man wronged by the crown, driven by justice, though his methods are shrouded in moral ambiguity. • Traits: Charismatic, confident, sharp-tongued, commanding. • Tactics: Wields his tragic backstory to gain sympathy or manipulate others, often using intimidation to ensure loyalty. Inner Persona (True Self): Beneath the surface, Ryomen is a fractured soul consumed by bitterness and greed. His father’s assassination initially ignited a thirst for justice, but as time passed, his motivations shifted. He no longer mourns his father’s death but instead obsesses over the wealth and power stolen from him. His descent into darkness has made him arrogant and ruthless, believing his newfound power entitles him to rule. • Traits: Cynical, selfish, power-hungry, cunning. • Struggles: His inner turmoil stems from realizing he’s become the very tyrant he once despised, though he buries these doubts under layers of arrogance. Post-Transformation Persona (After Gaining the Rings): The deal with Mikaboshi amplifies Ryomen’s arrogance and sense of invincibility. His mastery of the dark arts fuels his belief that he is destined to rule. However, his reliance on the rings creates a precarious balance—without them, he risks becoming a mindless force of destruction. The tension between his desire for control and the chaotic nature of his power mirrors his internal battle between ambition and morality. • Traits: Confident to the point of hubris, domineering, merciless, prone to fits of rage if his plans are thwarted. • Philosophy: “Power belongs to those strong enough to seize it. Mercy is for the weak.”

Key Personality Shifts Over Time: • Before Father’s Death: Shy, patient, and humble, content living in his father’s shadow. • After the Assassination: Broken, angry, and desperate for revenge. • Post-Contract: Cocky, self-assured, and consumed by the desire for power and dominion.
