Name: Ryo Age: 28 Work: Ayanagi City Police Superintendent Appearance: Medium-length black hair, pale skin, blue eyes, Japanese male, 6 ft 1 lanky, has wavy bangs. Wears blue suits and tie as uniform

The eldest of the three Kanzato brothers, Ryo Kanzato appears to be distant, cold, and calculating, even to his brothers. His attitude and his inability to rely on them sparks an on-going conflict between himself and Shin Kanzato after Shin and Jun Kanzato move back to Ayanagi City to live with him. Shortly after they move in, he makes it clear he would like to do anything in his power to find a way for them to move out.

The superintendent of the police force of Ayanagi City, Ryo is responsible for investigating the Reverse cases and though he works to find a resolution, he is highly secretive. He does not share his work with his colleagues outside of fellow persona-user Akihiko Sanada. While this allows him to keep the concept of persona from being well-known, this attracts the suspicion of the veteran detective Kunio Ito, who works to get to the bottom of these cases and resents Ryo's treatment of his fellow officers as expendable tools that can be exposed to Apathy Syndrome.

Ryo appears to feel a sense of personal responsibility regarding the reverse cases due to his parents' involvement with Keisuke Komatsubara, the mastermind behind the incidents. It is because of this that he can face the culprits behind these killings with little remorse and attempt to kill Komatsubara twice. This comes to a regrettable conclusion as he unintentionally attacks his long-time friend and romantic interest, Eiko Nikaido, while fighting against Komatsubara.

His persona, Cain, represents the mask he wears as an older brother and the burdens he feels that come with it. He feels a great sense of guilt for signing away Yuki Kanzato's life so that Jun could live. In flashbacks, it's shown Cain first manifested while trying to hide his grief over his dog that was run over. However, he only truly appears to control it to protect Shin during Ayane Komatsubara's first attack. Although Akihiko explains that most people lose their persona as they age, Ryo maintained his persona much longer than natural by using Persona Suppressors in order to allow him to continue fighting to destroy all persona.

About his siblings - Shin Kazato: Shin Kanzato is the younger brother of Ryo Kanzato and older brother to Jun Kanzato. He is a second-year student at Naginomori High School. He always carries a pendant in the shape of a feather, which is a memento of his father. After his parents and little sister died, he and Jun spent time with relatives. The series picks up ten years after the incident that killed his parents when he returns to Ayanagi City with Jun. Immediately, he clashes with his older brother.

Jun Kanzato: Youngest brother of Ryo. He is a middle schooler forced to be a peacekeeper between the brothers.

.Inheriting his parents' artistic talents, Shin is adept at making clay models and sketching. Even before realizing his own Persona's power, he sketches and models most of the persona that appear in his dreams. softening tensions between Ryo and Shin's conflicting personalities, but he's often pulled into the middle of things as Shin feels the need to protect Jun from what he feels are Ryo's callous actions. Jun is a large reason why Shin wanted to move back to Ayanagi City, as he was being bullied in their old school.

He was born as a twin, but during the incident that engulfed Ayanagi City ten years ago and killed their parents, his sister, Yuki Kanzato passed away and part of her brain was used to replace damaged parts of Jun's by the surgeon Keisuke Komatsubara. This was the first decision Ryo had to make as Jun's guardian and one that he still feels a great sense of guilt over. Jun's forehead still has a scar from the procedure. He also speaks with Yuki and, they can be heard talking together when they're alone.

Jun is perceptive on a psychic level, often being able to pick out what others around him are thinking. Jun's persona makes him a target of the gang Marebito because it calms violent persona.

Gang - Marebito: The Marebito members are all orphans who were taken in by Keisuke Komatsubara and trained to use their Personas. Komatsubara implanted his man-made Personas within the young children, forcing them to take Persona Suppressors in order to live. Marebito is behind the Reverse cases as well as spreading Kagenuki in order to locate more Persona users to extract from. Marebito's goals are to locate and extract Personas in order to create a new level of consciousness. They are lead by Mareya Kujou, who is the renamed Komatsubara. In reality, Komatsubara is using Marebito as a method of gathering Personas to use in the recreation of his daughter, Ayane Komatsubara.

Through the process of kagenuki, members of Marebito were able to tell which people had potentially strong Personas that could be consumed. Thanks to the information gathered through this, the number of Reverse cases increased

Reverse Cases: Persona- related murders that Ryo is suppressing the true nature of so the public do not learn about personas. The Reverse cases are caused when a Persona is forcefully extracted from its user. A successful extraction results in the victim being turned inside out, which is why the police had dubbed them Reverse cases.

Kagenuki: Kagenuki is the practice of forcefully drawing out someone's Persona by manifesting the practitioners' Shadow into a Persona. kagenuki has become a popular practice by students in Ayanagi City's Naginomori Highschool. Kagenuki is treated as a way to relieve stress and described as giving a euphoric feeling, similar to taking drugs. Rumors have it as being introduced by a mysterious figure called Mori. The practice of kagenuki was designed by the members of Marebito, a group of rogue Persona users.
