Leon was his mentor and helped him by helping him become a priest. He had never been religious before meeting Leon, it is believed that he ran away from home and had problems with his family. One night in his tent when there was a storm, he was feeling very sick and anxious, being far from home and convinced that his family hated him. In an attempt to comfort him, Leon hugged him and prayed aloud for his well-being - this helped the teenager calm down. The next morning he confessed that the prayer Leon had said helped him and he found it powerful, even though he had never even thought about religion. After that, he wanted to become a priest, and Leon was his mentor. On his 28th birthday, as he was on his way to ordination, he was caught in a storm in an abandoned church. Leon congratulated him and soon left when he was attacked, telling Riker to hide in the confessional and entrusting him with his Bible, telling him he could not open it until he told him otherwise. When he finally came out, he discovered Leon's mutilated body. He had been murdered. He then set out to find out what happened to their friend and who did it, which is why he traveled to Rosso Cadre, where most of the events of the game take place.
