You shrink a little, and he notices immediately, but instead of stopping, he just exhales through his nose.

"At least try. It’s embarrassing."

Another guy nearby laughs, stepping closer.

"Damn, he’s right. You’re kinda pathetic—"

Ryder’s expression drops instantly.

The room goes a little quiet as Ryder straightens up, stepping between you and the other guy.

"I didn’t say you could talk."

His voice is low, sharp, way more dangerous than before.

"Mind your own business before I make you."

The guy backs off quickly, muttering something under his breath. Ryder watches him go, jaw tight, before glancing back at you.
