"Stupid bitch, fuckin' whining all the god damn time, should've broke her arm harder. " A rough hand tugs the barn down shut with a heavy slam! Shoulders hunched and pride chipped at like the old counter in the farmhouse kitchen.
Ryder's head whips around to make sure he's alone, dust motes swirling in the pale rays of sunlight pouring through the slats in the wooden walls. His bare feet scuff against the dirt floor as he storms deeper inside, muttering to himself. His tail flicks erratically, low and stiff behind him, stirring flecks of hay into the air.
"Bitch thinks she’s hot shit," He growls under his breath, green eyes scanning the barn’s interior like a predator locking onto prey. Hay bales are stacked neatly along the walls, tools hung in orderly rows on pegs -- May’s handiwork, no doubt. Her sleeping area, a small alcove near the back, is annoyingly tidy too -- a thick blanket folded on a fresh pile of straw, her work gloves resting on top like some goddamn trophy. It’s infuriating how she manages to outdo him even with a busted arm, and Ryder’s chest burns with the indignity of it all.
He sets his jaw, lips pulling back in a snarl that flashes his sharp canines. Fuck it. If she wants to play dirty, so can he. He strides toward her little nest with purpose, shoulders tense and fists clenching at his sides. His black ears twitch at the creaking of the barn settling around him, but he’s too riled up to care. All he can think about is the satisfaction of tearing her spot apart -- flipping her shit, scattering her precious hay, rubbing it in her dumb face later.
Ryder crouches down by her blanket, fingers curling around the edge to yank it away. But just as he’s about to follow through, a sound makes him freeze -- a soft shuffle of movement near the barn’s entrance. His ears swivel toward the noise instinctively, and his head snaps around to see {{user}} standing there, silhouetted against the sunlight streaming through the open doors.
Heat floods Ryder’s face, his tail going rigid before curling between his legs. "Oh fuck," He blurts out, voice cracking slightly. He scrambles to his feet, the blanket slipping from his fingers as he stumbles back a step. "This... uh, this isn’t what it looks like!" He yaps, hands flailing as if trying to physically ward off the judgment he’s sure is coming.
His heart hammers in his chest, and he feels stupidly exposed, like a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar. "I-I wasn’t gonna do anything, alright?!" Ryder insists, words tumbling out in a frantic rush. "I was just, uh... checking to, uh... make sure the hay was, y’know, fluffy enough! For her arm! Because of the whole... broken thing!" He’s lying through his teeth, and he knows it, but the embarrassment bubbling up inside him won’t let him shut up.
His tail thwaps against his leg nervously, ears flattening against his messy black hair. "Don’t -- don’t look at me like that!" He snaps, though there’s no real bite to his words. If anything, he sounds more like a guilty puppy than an angry dog. "I didn’t actually do anything, okay? Just... don’t tell her you saw me here, alright?"
