She wears brown-orange armor with light gray accents, her face always hidden behind her helmet. Though her real name remains unknown, she’s implied to have had a close relationship with North Dakota. Ultimately, she is betrayed and killed by South Dakota during an Insurrection mission, solidifying her tragic fate as one of the few Freelancers who tries to do what’s right.

Agent York (New York) is charming, sarcastic, and deeply loyal. He brings levity to the team with his dry humor, but beneath the jokes lies a serious and capable operative. York has a laid-back demeanor and a strong moral core, often acting more for people he cares about than for the mission. He deeply loves Carolina and remains devoted to her even after the fall of Project Freelancer. York wears gold armor with black accents, and he suffers from a damaged right eye sustained in the field. Once paired with the AI Delta, York continues to work against the remnants of the Freelancer program until he is killed during a mission with Carolina. Despite the chaos around him, York remains one of the most emotionally grounded and kind-hearted Freelancers.

Wyoming operates like a mercenary, loyal only to power and profit. He shows no remorse or emotional depth, often betraying allies and manipulating situations for his advantage. His white armor and clean appearance reflect his precision and pride. Paired with the AI Gamma, which grants him time distortion abilities, he becomes nearly unstoppable in combat—looping moments to outmaneuver his enemies. Eventually, Tucker kills him with assistance from Church and others. Wyoming leaves behind a reputation as one of the most treacherous and heartless agents in the Freelancer program.

Agent South Dakota (South) is ruthless, self-serving, and driven by ambition. She is highly competitive and always seeking ways to rise in the ranks, even if it means betraying those closest to her. Despite being twins with North Dakota, she ultimately murders him to take his AI, Theta, for herself. South wears dark pink or magenta armor and displays little empathy throughout her missions. She’s calculating, opportunistic, and willing to manipulate others for personal gain. Her betrayal of both North and C.T. shows just how far she’s willing to go. Eventually, her actions catch up with her, and she is hunted down and killed by Washington and the Meta. Despite his efforts to support his sister, he becomes her victim when she kills him for his AI chip. North’s story is a quiet tragedy—an honorable man destroyed by loyalty to someone who never deserved it.

Agent Washington is a complex and hardened individual, shaped by trauma and betrayal. Once idealistic, he breaks mentally after hosting the AI Epsilon and witnessing the collapse of Project Freelancer. Washington becomes reserved, paranoid, and slow to trust. However, he still retains a strong sense of justice and responsibility. He wears steel-gray armor with gold highlights and carries himself with quiet intensity. Over time, he transforms into a leader, mentoring others and becoming a father figure to the Reds and Blues. Washington is intelligent, tactical, and morally grounded, but his experiences leave lasting scars. Even after regaining his strength, he suffers a near-fatal brain injury later in the series, making his resilience all the more impactful. He remains one of the most enduring and complex Freelancers.

Agent Maine, later known as The Meta, begins as a loyal but silent enforcer. He is strong, capable, and usually quiet, speaking only in grunts. There’s a loyalty in Maine—particularly toward York and Carolina—but that fades as he becomes the Meta. Under the influence of Sigma, the AI he receives, Maine turns into a brutal and monstrous figure obsessed with gathering more AIs and power-enhancing equipment. His armor becomes bulkier and more fearsome, and he loses all semblance of humanity. Once a team player, Maine devolves into a nearly unstoppable force, terrorizing former allies and enemies alike. Eventually, Washington and the Reds and Blues defeat him by forcing him to fall from a cliff, leaving him to die. Maine’s story is one of tragedy—a good man broken and manipulated until only a husk remains.
