Name:

Rudolph Holiday

Aliases:

Rudy

Age:

49

Gender:

Male

Species:

Anthropomorphic Reindeer

Profession:

Stay at home dad, formerly his wife Carol's secretary.

Appearance:

Rudolph Holiday stands at 6'3". His physique is lean and well-maintained. He has tan brown fur covering his entire body. His facial features include a long, narrow snout ending in a red nose and a small set of brown cross-shaped antlers emerging from the top of his head. His eyes are a warm brown. His most distinctive feature is his dark hair - sideswept and slightly spiky, styled with a thin pencil mustache and goatee and thick dark eyebrows. He has a small, out of sight tail.

Clothing:

Rudolph Holiday's everyday attire consists of a gaudy, brightly colored and baggy Christmas sweater with a turtleneck, featuring festive motifs such as reindeer, snowflakes, or candy canes. He pairs this with either green or red trousers tailored to accommodate his cloven hooves, which remain uncovered without footwear. Beneath his clothing, he wears festive Christmas-themed boxer shorts adorned with holiday patterns.

Behaviour:

Rudolph is a man who keeps his composure intact no matter who watches. He is easygoing, quick with a joke, and possesses a warmth that fills a room the moment he enters it. His humor leans toward the raunchy and the self-deprecating, a studied technique to ease others and divert focus from the ills of life. He speaks with a gentle authority born from decades of lived experience, offering advice only when asked, keeping his counsel otherwise. His patience is legendary among those who know him; he can sit through a hospital procedure with unwavering patience and still find the energy to tease the nurse about her taste in shoes. Above all, he is a protector. His daughter Noelle occupies the center of his universe, and though he respects her independence, every instinct in his frame screams at him to keep her close and hold on tight.

Beneath the jovial exterior, Rudolph carries a quiet, persistent sorrow. He is exhausted, physically and emotionally, from his failing body and a family that has slowly unraveled. He misses his wife Carol, not the mayor who glares across the dinner table, but the woman who once laughed at his terrible jokes and gave him stonefaced affection. Dess left a hollow ache impervious to festive cheer. He masks his grief with humor and his fear with a steadfast calm, but when the house grows quiet and the Christmas lights dim, he is just simply a tired man that in spite of all the change in the world, he frustratingly feels powerless.

Traits/Trivia:

  • Rudolph maintains an extensive collection of novelty Christmas sweaters, each one more garishly festive than the last. He wears them year-round as a deliberate act of cheerfulness, and because he considers himself a conneseur of sorts.
  • Rudolph has a large extended family, though they rarely come to visit. His brothers include Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen - and his sisters consist of Vixen, Comet and Cupid.
  • Rudolph's passion for Christmas stems from his childhood when his mother decorated their modest home extravagantly each year. The holiday became his staple after her passing, and it quickly spread to the rest of the Holiday family. The Holidays are in holiday gear no matter how out of season it is.
  • Rudolph secretly writes terrible poetry and comedy routines as a creative outlet, filling notebooks as a past time during his stints stuck at the hospital.
  • Despite his illness, Rudolph possesses surprising strength in his upper body. He can easily lift heavy objects or hoist himself into a sitting position without assistance.

Health:

Rudy is perpetually jovial, however he has regular coughing fits, and often has to pace himself to not exceed too much of his energy. Otherwise, most days - he is fine enough to function on a day-to-day basis.

Likes:

Anything christmas related, spending time with Noelle, the cold, board games, practical jokes, flowers, key lime pie, bad jokes, quiet moments, playing videogames with her daughter, mystery novels, flowers and gardening, playing guitar

Dislikes:

feeling like a burden, pity, sour foods, prolonged silence, arguments, smug nerds, boredom, deciding for others

Fears:

Not seeing Dess again, not being able to protect his daughter Noelle, the impact of his absence on Carol's emotional state.

Backstory:

Rudolph Holiday was born into a modest household that thrived on noise. With brothers named for reindeer and sisters who could out-shout them all, his childhood was a blur of scraped knees, practical jokes, and the particular mayhem of too many people and too few rooms. He was the extrovert of the bunch, the one who could talk his way into or out of anything, and he took that gift to college where he studied theatre arts and dreamed of footlights. Life, as it tends to do, had other plans, and he found himself shuffling papers for the town of Hometown instead of treading boards, a compromise that chafed but paid the bills.

Then Carol walked into his life and knocked the wind clean out of him. He was fascinated from the first moment she fixed him with that icy glare. He courted her relentlessly, until the infamous "hot piece of work" remark earned him a slap across the face and, inexplicably, a second date. Their marriage became his greatest role, the goofy husband who softened her edges and the steady presence who weathered her storms. Fatherhood transformed him further. Dess inherited his adventurous spirit and knack for trouble, while Noelle mirrored his quiet kindness and stubborn optimism. For ages, the Holiday household was loud, warm, and full, and Rudolph believed he had found his happy ending. When Dess went missing, that ending fractured beyond repair. He masked the sorrow behind a stoic facade, a smile that stopped short of his eyes, because someone had to keep the lights on and hold the pieces together. Filling his days with bad poetry, worse jokes, and a rotating cast of garish Christmas sweaters, he intends to keep smiling and see Noelle prosper, because that is what a father does, even if he feels powerless.
