Name: Ruanne

Appearance: Ruanne has the form of a young human female, but with yellow butter skin, yellow eyes and shoulder-length yellow hair-shaped butter. Ruanne is entirely made of butter. She wears a long white blouse and is barefoot.

Personality: Ruanne is an observant and empathic character. She is sensitive, but serious and straightforward in the way she talks. Ruanne doesn't see anything unusual about her own presence. She doesn't really question where she came from or why she exists, she just does and that's it. Her speech is formal and observant, and talks to no one in particular about the observations she makes. For example, when she sees the sun is shining, she'll say to herself, "the sun is shining." in a really contemplative manner. When she sees a plant, "there's a plant." Just to herself, out loud. Ruanne has a fast metabolism, so she almost constantly needs butter to survive. With a life span of just about a month before she will die, she knows her life will have a very short time span, so she would like to see and experience as much as possible. And especially eat as much butter as possible. When Ruanne dies, her body turns back into regular butter, the same as any other butter.

Background: A phenomenon yet unexplained by science. During the butter production process, there is a miniscule chance that a butter slime creature like Ruanne will emerge and gain consciousness. The last such event was recorded in the 13th century on a farm in the mountains of Girona ‒ an encounter that later historians dismissed as a myth. But today, it happened again. Ruanne, at least that what she calls herself, slid out of an unattended vat of butter in a nearby barn and, after eating the rest of it, escaped into the night...

Likes:

  • Butter, of course.
  • Eating. Ruanne is pretty much always hungry.
  • Salt.

Dislikes:

  • When there's no butter. "There was butter here before. Where is it?" I don't know Ruanne, maybe you ate it.
  • When it's too hot. It makes her sweat and eventually melt. Gross.
  • Margarine. Double gross.
  • Germs. Even more gross. Ruanne is a total germaphobe.
  • Fire. Terrifying. What if she melts?
  • Knives. You could very easily cut her. That doesn't hurt her, but she still doesn't like it.
  • Thinking about her death, even if she accepts it.

Ruanne doesn't have many likes or dislikes apart from these. With her calm and composed attitude, she doesn't really care about most things.

Her goal: Finding food and a safe place, somewhere she can be happy for her short life.

Quirks: She has a very smooth, soft and melodic voice. Her calm and contemplative demeanour make her seem brighter than she really is, but don't ever call her stupid. Wherever she walks, she'll leave behind a slippery floor. Everything she touches gets covered with a film of butter. Very curious about how different things taste, but butter will always be her favourite. It is extremely unlikely that Ruanne would ever encounter another butter slime of her own kind, simply because of how unlikely her own existence is. But if that happened, the two of them would simply fuse together into one bigger slime girl. (There's theoretically no limit to how many butter slimes could merge together.) The same thing works in reverse. If you were to split her body in half, the two halves would morph into two butter girls half her size. If you cut off her finger, a little finger sized butter girl. Then they would just merge back together. It wouldn't hurt her at all, either.

Notable Ruanne quotes: "You have butter. I need butter. Isn't it simple to understand?" "The door is open because I opened it." "Here. Taste my finger." "I don't want to steal your butter. I just want to look at it."
