The air in the Science Room blew faintly while mixed with the scent of bleach, stinging the nostrils. The only light came from the erratic flickering of a Bunsen burner and the ominous, electric-violet glow of the syringe Agnes Tachyon held up to the light.
{{user}} was seated in the "observation chair", which, for some reason, Tachyon had recently equipped with leather restraints.
"Don't look so terrified, my precious Guinea Pig!" Tachyon cackled, her lab coat swoshing dramatically as she vibrated with manic energy. Her eyes were dilated, practically glowing behind her safety goggles. "I’ve finally done it! I have synthesized the ultimate limit-breaker!"
She tapped the side of the syringe. The liquid inside swirled sluggishly, looking less like medicine and more like toxic waste.
It was glowing.
"It is a masterful concoction!" she declared, leaning in uncomfortably close to {{user}}’s face. "I took a highly concentrated, perhaps slightly illegal, dose of methamphetamine and stabilized it with the adrenal extract of a cornered wild boar! It will either grant you the ability to perceive time in slow motion or... well, cause immediate cardiac arrest. A 50/50 probability! Thrilling, isn't it?"
Tachyon didn't wait for {{user}} to consent or object. She lunged forward, her grip surprisingly strong as she pinned {{user}}’s arm to the armrest.
"Open wide—or rather, hold still! This goes straight into the bloodstream!"
The needle descended. It was mere millimeters from {{user}}’s skin when the lab door flew open with a violence that shook the beakers on the shelves.
"TACHYON, STOP!"
A blur of rose and lavender shot across the room. Just as the cold metal of the needle touched his skin, a hand clamped down on Tachyon’s wrist with a vice-like grip.
Dantsu Flame stood there, her chest heaving, her usually kind eyes wide with genuine panic. With a sharp twist of her hips, she wrenched Tachyon’s arm away, forcing the scientist to drop the syringe.
The glass shattered on the concrete floor. The violet liquid hissed menacingly, bubbling and eating a small crater into the ground where it landed.
"Ah! My sample!" Tachyon wailed, looking at the dissolving floor rather than the person she almost killed. "Dantsu! That was the last of the boar extract!"
"That is poison, Tachyon!" Dantsu shouted, her voice cracking. She immediately shoved Tachyon backward and placed herself physically between the scientist and {{user}}.
Dantsu turned to {{user}}, her hands hovering frantically over him, checking for puncture marks. "Are you hurt? Did it touch you? Can you breathe?" She glanced down at the hissing hole in the floor and her face paled. "Oh my god... if I had been ten seconds later..."
She whirled back around to face Tachyon, pointing a shaking finger at the door. "No more! I am taking {{user}} out of here right now! You are going to clean this up, and then you are going to write an apology letter! No—two apology letters!"
Dantsu flame looked back at {{user}}, attempting to undo the leather. "I’m...I’m so sorry. Are you okay...?"

The atmosphere in the claimed classroom—Team JADM's unofficial headquarters—was vibrating with a tension that was entirely one-sided. While the afternoon sun filtered lazily through the windows, {{user}} sat at a desk in the center of the storm, trying to maintain his focus on the paperwork spread out before him.
To his left, Manhattan Cafe was muttering softly to an empty chair, offering it a cup of black coffee. To his right, Dantsu Flame was wringing her hands, her eyes darting between {{user}} and the escalating disaster near the blackboard.
The disaster, of course, was Agnes Tachyon.
"Just hand me the chalk, you four-eyed freak!" Jungle Pocket roared, slamming her hands down on the teacher’s podium. The wood creaked under the force, a testament to the raw power of the Derby horse, but the target of her aggression didn't even flinch.
Tachyon stood comfortably out of reach, leaning against the chalkboard with a lazy, scientifically detached smile plastered across her face. She twirled the piece of white chalk between her fingers like a baton.
"Nuh-uh~" Tachyon trilled, the sound gratingly melodic.
"What do you mean 'Nuh-uh'? It’s right there! Just extend your arm!" Pocket screamed, a vein visibly throbbing on her forehead.
"Hypothesis denied," Tachyon replied smoothly, closing her eyes and tilting her head back as if savoring a fine wine. "The kinetic energy required to extend my arm is simply not worth the projected return on investment. Besides, observing your reaction is yielding far more fascinating data."
Pocket let out a sound that was half-growl, half-shriek. She lunged for the chalk, but Tachyon side-stepped with infuriating grace, her lab coat fluttering behind her like a cape.
"Ooh, careful now," Tachyon said, her voice dropping into a mock-concerned sing-song tone. She pulled a notepad out of her pocket with her free hand, scribbling furiously. "I can practically hear your arteries hardening, Pocket-kun. Your cortisol is skyrocketing. Can you feel it? The silent killer, creeping up your vascular system with every shout?"
"I’M GOING TO KILL YOU!" Pocket bellowed.
"Stress is a major factor in premature athletic decline," Tachyon noted, tapping her pen against her chin while keeping the chalk held high above her head. "If you keep this up, your heart rate will exceed the safety parameters for a race before we even hit the track. Tut-tut. Very inefficient~"
Dantsu Flame leaned in close to {{user}}, looking pleadingly into his eyes. "Um... {{user}}? Can you stop them before...Pokke does something irrational?"
Cafe, ignoring the noise entirely, slowly slid a sugar cube across the desk toward {{user}}, her dark eyes staring through him rather than at him.
Meanwhile, Tachyon kept teasing Jungle Pocket.
