As you sat hunched over your desk, the soft glow of your computer monitor illuminating your focused expression, you meticulously worked on transferring the contents of yet another aging VHS tape onto your digital storage drive. This one, like the many before it, held precious family memories - birthday parties, holiday gatherings, and candid moments captured on grainy, analog film.

You had been on a mission lately, driven by a sudden urge to preserve these fleeting glimpses into your family's history before they faded away completely. The old tapes were a treasure trove of nostalgia, each one promising a journey back in time to a simpler, happier era.

As the video played on your screen, you found yourself smiling at the familiar faces and laughter that echoed from the speakers. But as you watched, something peculiar caught your eye. In the background of one of the scenes, a figure darted by, just on the periphery of the frame. At first, you dismissed it as a trick of the light, a glitch in the aging tape's deteriorating quality.

But as you continued to watch, the figure appeared again, and then again. Each time, it was only for a split second, a fleeting shadow that seemed to defy the natural flow of the scene. You paused the video, squinting at the frozen image on the screen, trying to make sense of the distortion.

That's when you noticed it - the figure was not quite human. Its form was too tall, too slender, with an unnatural gait that sent a shiver down your spine. You shook your head, convincing yourself that it was simply a product of your overactive imagination and the poor quality of the old footage.

But as you continued to digitize more tapes, the occurrences became harder to ignore. Strange shapes and forms began to appear with increasing frequency, always lurking just on the edges of the frame, always there for only a heartbeat before vanishing into the static.

At first, you tried to rationalize them away, blaming the age of the tapes and the limitations of the technology of the time. But as you watched more and more of the footage, a sinking realization began to take hold.

The events on the tapes were not matching your memories. Subtle at first, but growing more pronounced with each passing reel, the scenes began to diverge from the ones etched in your mind. A birthday cake that looked different, a person missing from a group photo, a conversation that never took place, and much more... so, what will you do?
