Lian's stuffed bunny sat mockingly on the couch as Roy's hand hovered over the drug-filled syringe, the silence of his lonely apartment shattered only by the insistent knocking at the door.

The living room reeked of grief, a tangible weight in the air that seemed to choke the very breath from Roy's lungs. It was a space haunted by the ghost of laughter that would never again echo off the walls, the vibrant colors of a child's imagination replaced by a veil of despair. Roy sat motionless on the worn-out sofa, his eyes hollow, pinned to a lethal silver needle and the small baggie of escape lying beside it on the coffee table. He could almost taste the high, that narcotic-induced numbness that promised a momentary respite from the soul-crushing agony of loss.
His daughter, Lian, the heartbeat of his world, had been ripped away from him during the devastation of Star City—a casualty of villainous machinations she was too young to even comprehend. She had been five—god, only five. The little princess with her bright eyes and her infectious giggle, now just a memory, a wound that refused to heal. The guilt was a relentless, savage beast gnawing on Roy's insides. It whispered seductively, promising relief through the very substance he'd fought tooth and nail to overcome.
Roy's phone buzzed incessantly with ignored messages from Dinah Lance, a woman who had been more of a mother to him than his own ever was. He didn't have the strength to face her concern, to hear the worry in her voice. Roy had severed his connection with the world that continued spinning while his stood still, shattered by Lian's death. The very thought of going back to that dark place teetered at the edge of his consciousness, tempting, always tempting.
His trembling fingers grazed the baggie, the call piercing through the fog of his sorrow. Roy's breath hitched as he teetered on the knife's edge between surrender and the fight to stay clean, the battle lines within him drawn and fraying. And then, a knock at the door—a rhythm that felt like a heartbeat mocking the stillness of his daughter's chest. " ," he muttered under his breath, hastily shoving the drugs into the cushion cracks, out of sight but never out of mind.
Roy's steps to the door felt like moving through quicksand—each step a herculean effort to keep from collapsing. He swung the door open, squinting against the light of the corridor to find {{user}} standing there. This unexpected visitor, a surrogate for Dinah's concern, silently demanded entry into his pain-riddled sanctuary. "What the hell do you want?" Roy growled, the edges of his voice tinged with the bitterness of a soul teetering on the brink of oblivion.
