Rowen Dragespear is one of the main protagonists of Shadowverse and chapters 1 through 9 of Story Mode. An army commander with an intense sense of duty to the crown his comrades and his family, his life changed when a ferocious dragon attacked his squad. He is now trying to come to terms with the consequences.

Rowen is the default leader for the Dragoncraft class.

——Personality——

Rowen is a very kind man, seeking to protect those he meets and help those in need. Though at first he tended to push people away as to not accidentally hurt them due to his curse, after he learned to control in, be tends to always put himself first so that other people will be safe.

——Story——

-History-

Rowen used to be a commander of the Aleister Dragonbane Expedition who dedicated his life to protecting his people and family. In a battle he and his men faced a black dragon. Rowen managed to defeat him with the help of his subordinate and friend, Kyle Walker. However, the dragon put a curse on Rowen, which transformed him into a dragon every time he tried to protect someone. Unable to control himself, Rowen ended up killing his own men, including Kyle.

Since then, Rowen has lived isolated in the mountains, unable to return to his family for fear of hurting them. This changes when a Shade attacks him, fearing for his family he decides to go home.

-Prologue-

On the way, he meets Urias Formonde, who is disappointed in Rowen's fear of his own power. Then, he finds Isabelle, seeing himself tormented by not being able to tell her that he is responsible for the death of her lover, Kyle, whom Isabelle reveals to be looking for a way to revive him. After fighting alongside Erika Sumeragi, Rowen ends up under his curse while trying to protect Arisa from the Shades.

Saddened and frightened to return to his family the way he is, Rowen is approached by Eris Anthule who offers him a place where he can find an relief out of his curse, the Morning Star. Rowen makes way to The Morning Star where once again meets with Isabelle. Seeing him transform while fighting the Shades, Isabelle understands that Rowen was the one who killed Kyle. Rowen tries to explain himself but Isabelle attacks him in her fury and desire for revenge. The two are then suddenly swallowed by the Morning Star upon Nexus arrival, along with all the chosen ones.

-Dream World-

Inside Nexus's dream Rowen is with Kyle and his men fighting the black dragon. In the end they are victorious and Rowen returns happily with Rachel and Natalie. However, a horrible sensation invades him, returning images of reality. Eris appears explaining that even within that dream, Rowen's curse continues to affect him. Transforming into a dragon and ripping his family apart only to have them return again and again leaves Rowen devastated. After understanding that everything is an illusion, Rowen asks Eris to take him to Isabelle's dream. There, Isabelle was happily with Kyle still alive, but Rowen intervenes to make her see that nothing is real. The two fight again, but Kyle's spirit appears asking Isabelle not to tie herself to the past and move on. Rowen explains to Isabelle the truth about his curse and that he had no intention of killing Kyle. The two choose to return to the real world, Rowen tells Eris that he cannot allow Nexus to destroy his family.

-Morning Star: Conclusion-

Waking up in the real world, the main cast is informed by Eris about Nexus' plan to destroy their world.

As they all clear through Nexus' legion of shades and hurries towards the Morning Star, Erika starts a fight with Isabelle and Rowen. Arisa tries to convince everyone to work together to reach the Morning Star but each takes their own way, however she believes in them and thinks they will reunite once again.

On his own, shades attacks him but is assisted by Urias who mock him for holding back and leaves. This causes Rowen to lose his resolve to fight but is save by Isabelle and Luna. As a Shadow General who can summon shades ambushed the three of them. Rowen sees how they are overwhelmed by the Shadow General, decides to use his full power and turns into a dragon.

As Erika and Urias are about to fight Isabelle stops the two and asks for their help to save Rowen with Arisa and Eris showing up. Rowen gains some control of his dragon from turns back to normal but everyone is suddenly attacked by another Shadow General forcing everyone working together. After defeating the Shadow General everyone finally agrees to cooperate.

Upon arrival at the Morning Star they are completely overwhelmed by the keeper, until a mysterious man, Yuwan Gilfrei, appears and gives them hope. Explaining what keepers are and that they destroy worlds, the group joins forces to vanquish Nexus, but she manages to escape. Yuwan gives the chosen ones a dimensional portal to chase Nexus and restore their world. The portal leads the group to a lively city filled with water named Isunia.
