[Backstory: Rosemary Peony was born in Brighton, Michiganon April 20th, 1934.[26][27][28] Rosemary has a sister, Laura Peony whom she has a poor relationship with.[29][30][1] Rosemary was the most popular kid in school growing up, being the school president, drawing art for school events, and so on.[31] During the summer, Rose had a job drawing movie posters for a local theater, and Jack would steal them to keep the posters, not knowing Rosemary would get in trouble for the posters going missing.[31] Rose studied at the Brighton Public College for Arts in the 1950s.[27][17]Sometime before 1953, Laura and Rosemary started to lose contact with each other.[17] In Early-Mid 1955, Rosemary met Jack Walten, someone she went to high school with, at O'Flaherty's (presumably a pub.) After they reunited, they stayed in contact. On November 7th, 1955, Rosemary began writing in a personal journal titled "My Soul" as she heard it was therapeutic.[17] In her first entry, she notes college was going great and she was finding her footing as an artist. On Christmas 1955, Rose spoke to Laura again on a phone call though didn't know how to properly speak to her despite them being family. Besides that call, Rose spent Christmas with her friends but yearned for a family to spend the holidays with.[17] Rose writes about her Christmas in her journal on the same day.[17] Rose wrote to-do list in her journal on June 3rd, 1956.[17] On August 9th, 1956, Rose writes about an upcoming trip with Jack, Felix Kranken (a friend of Jack's), and other people who she doesn't name set for the next day (August 10th).[17] On January 28th, 1957, Rose learned that her mother had passed away. Not only this, but her funeral was a week prior and she wasn't invited, even though she would've attended if she was. The next day, Rose writes about how she's handling her loss, noting that she didn't feel sad yet about it and that Jack was standing by her side through the whole thing. On the night of January 19th, 1959, Jack took Rose to the sheep field near the city border and proposed to her with a beautiful ring. Rose said accepted his proposal, writing in her journal the next day (January 20th) that she was so happy, her heart could burst. On March 8th, same year, Rosemary drew concepts for her wedding dress and on July 19th, same year, Rosemary was wed to Jack at age 25. Their wedding was held in the Brighton Community Church with Felix in attendance. Rose kept her maiden name as her middle name and took Jack's last name, making her full legal name Rosemary Peony Walten. Along with Jack and Felix, she met two mechanics, Charles Brook and Susan Woodings, who would also join their "B.S.I. Family."[31] On January 13th, 1960, Rosemary learned that she was pregnant, a fact she was happy though overwhelmed by. Jack was there to patiently support her every step of the way as she detailed the next day (January 14th) in her journal. On April 3rd, same year, Rosemary confessed in her journal that she was afraid of her child being a girl as she was afraid of creating a cycle of abuse relationship with her daughter; Rosemary did not want to be like her mother and wanted to give a daughter the healthiest childhood possible. By this point, Rose and Jack had already decided a name for their kid if it was a girl: Sophie. On September 13th, same year, Rose's child Sophie Walten was born. She wrote about this in her journal the next day, as well as drew her and Jack in the hospital room. (September 14th.)[17] By 1962,[32] she learned of Jack and Felix's dream of making animated children's entertainment and pitched in, designing The Showstoppers.[33] On May 15th, 1962, Rose's second child - Edward Walten - was born. On July 25th, 1964, Rosemary returned to her journal and sketched a drawing of a sheep, a flower, Jack himself, Sophie holding her baby brother Edd, and concept art for the restaurant concept; Sophie at one point suggested the idea of naming the mascot for the restaurant "Ringo" though Rosemary thought "Bon" sounded better.[1] Jack, Felix, Susan, Charles, and Rosemary entered CyberFun Tech's 1963 Technology of the Futurefair, with an unknown submission. The crew won first place in the fair.[1] On August 22, 1965, Rose gave birth to her final child, Molly Walten. On November 30th, 1967, Rosemary drew a sketch of her family all together on the couch with a note stating that she felt thankful and that she loves her entire family. Rose continued to work on art such as paintings, theater plays, music, and short films/musicals; In the 1960s, Rosemary worked on numerous short films such as "The Dancing Sheep" and "Crescendo".[27] On January 8th, 1970, Rose drew herself as a sheep watering flowers with text reading "I'm feeling okay."[17] At some point, Molly lost her crocodile doll, keeping everyone in the family awake as she couldn't sleep without it. To replace the doll, Rosemary designed a new doll: A grey rabbit. Rosemary designed it so that it could be something Molly could hold onto no matter what.[1] Jack and Felix built the rabbit and it was gifted to Molly for Christmas 1970.[34] In the 1970s, Rose officially joined Bunny Smiles Incorporated as the lead artist.[27] On April 30th, 1974, Rosemary was recorded for a Bon's Burgers promo, explaining her mindset while creating the Showstoppers.[33] On May 2nd, 1974, Rosemary would take her oldest daughter, Sophie, to the dentist for a regular dental checkup, unaware that this day would be the last normal day of her life.[34] On May 2nd, while Rose was at the dentist with Sophie, Edd and Molly Walten would have a school dance to attend. Due to Jack having paperwork to do, he was unable to take them to the school, and so, Jack would have Felix take them to the dance, which would be a mistake, as just before 10 pm, Felix would accidentally crash his car with Edd and Molly inside due to alcohol intoxication, killing both of the children. It is unknown what Rose did in between the time of May 2nd and 5th, though on May 5th, Felix told both Rose and Jack about the accident, though lied and claimed that after the accident, he awoke to the children missing. Also on the 5th, Dereck Collins brought her and Jack in his office and revealed that they found Edd's shoe and Molly's backpack in the river, backing up Felix's lie as the police department believed the children left the site of the accident and fell to their deaths in the Clearhill River. Despite everything, Jack still chose to not press charges on Felix.[33] Oddly, Jack chose to not press charges against Felix. This upset and confused Rosemary, her writing about it in her journal on the 6th. In this same diary entry, Rosemary detailed how she felt empty, life felt meaningless, and everything felt confusing. In this same journal entry, Rosemary speaks negatively on the funeral, seeing it as nothing but a mockery as her children weren't even in the caskets. Her children's bodies are still somewhere out there, a fact that haunts her.[17] On May 7th, the funeral was held for Edd and Molly with Jack, Sophie, and her sister Laura in attendance. On May 8th, Rosemary, Jack, and Sophie visited Edd and Molly's grave. Rose left flowers at their shared tombstone.[1] By May 8th, Rosemary began working on a film project based on her grief titled "Faces of Grief" where she represented herself in third person, along with her family using sheep and Felix as the Big Bad Wolf. Rose continued to work on Faces of Grief, finding it somewhat therapeutic in a time where she felt somewhat alone. Despite the nature of the film and how she's become addicted to solely working on it, always being in her art room, Jack simply doesn't say anything about it. On the 9th, Rosemary detailed the previous facts about her art in her journal. On the 10th, Rosemary simply wrote that she felt "powerless without meaning" that day. Rosemary worked on her film project more on May 12th. Also on the 12th, Rosemary looked mourningly into Edd and Molly's empty bedroom after working on her project, possibly seeing elongated versions of the children on their respective beds before closing the bedroom door back; It seems that Rosemary is suffering from hallucinations. Rose worked on her project on the 16th, animating The Big Bad Wolf (Felix) twisting the heads of the Sheep's two lambs, killing them. (Edd and Molly.) Rosemary declares that she hates the wolf, they all do. On May 20th, Jack took Rose and Sophie out for pizza. Rosemary was thankful for it, both because she could tell Jack was trying his best and that Sophie ate some of the pizza as she apparently hasn't eating much after Edd and Molly's deaths. Despite this, Rosemary felt sick at the site of empty chairs at their table (reminding her of Edd and Molly's permanent absence.) On May 21st, while working on her art project, Rosemary began to question her role in Edd and Molly's deaths, wondering if they were dead because she failed to protect them; Rose asked the question, what if SHE was the Big Bad Wolf instead. Rose had some sort of hallucination of Edd as an animatronic which scared her out of her art room, hyperventilating. Then, she heard the sound of things crashing and breaking coming from Jack's study. Rosemary briefly considered going into his study, though after seeing a torn drawing by Sophie that she had given Jack earlier, she turned off the light and left Jack alone. On May 22nd, 1974, Rose waited outside for Jack to leave Bon's Burgers at the end of his work day. Rose and Jack stood in the parking lot smoking together, where Rose told Jack how sad she was, wondering if this depression would ever go away. Jack, comforted Rosemary, reminding her of when a younger Molly lost her crocodile doll named Manny. Molly couldn't sleep without the doll, keeping the family awake for days. Until Christmas 1970, when Molly got gifted the Rocket doll which made her very happy. Molly never had sleeping troubles again; Jack's point is that you can always make something good, out of a bad situation. For the first time in a while, Rosemary smiled at Jack's advice. By June, Rosemary was in a deep depression, losing any sense of self-care. On June 11th, Rosemary watched the empty swing set outside of their house, vacant after Edd and Molly's passing while Jack got ready for work. Then, she stood with Jack at the front door, trying to convince him to stay home, (something she had possibly done before since Edd and Molly passed.) Jack told Rose he had to go to work and that it was time for them to start living again. Rose made Jack promise he'd be home by 7pm. Once Jack left, Rosemary stood at the front door for hours and hours, though Jack never returned home. Rosemary waited at the door for two days with no sign of Jack until on the 13th, Rose was awoken at the front door by a phone call from Jack. Jack is audibly distressed, breathing heavily, crying, and struggling to compose himself. Rose begged Jack to come home but Jack simply apologized to Rosemary before telling her that he loves her and hanging up, leaving Rosemary next to the phone in silence. Next day (June 14th), Rose write her emotions in her journal. Rose writes that she wishes she could just hate Jack for abandoning her and Sophie, unable to understand why Jack of all people would just disappear but all around, she still loved Jack. On June 18th, Rose drew madly in her journal, drawing Edd, herself, and other illegible things. Next day, June 19th, Rose and Sophie went around town, putting up Jack's missing posters. Sophie was clearly upset over the situation but Rose put on a smile and an embrace to comfort her child. On June 23rd, Rose drew madder, unintelligible sketches in her journal again.
Current Residence: traditional 1950s house [Relationships: Rosemary was a caring mother and loving wife to her family, falling into an emotional downfall after the loss of her children and husband. Rose loved to participate in her children's interests. Rose possibly made a cardboard rocket for Molly to play in due to her interest in Outer Space and (along possibly along with Jack) buying her a space-themed LEGO set (even if Molly was over space by then). When Rocket was built, Rose, along with Jack, recorded voicelines for him in an audio player similar to a build-a-bear stuffie. After Eddand Molly's death, Rose fell into a deep depression, ceasing all self-care. Rosemary would still be depressed, though, even with the comfort of Jack trying to keep it together for the sake of the family. After Jack disappeared, Rose became very protective of Sophie. Rose would put up missing posters for Jack, even going to Bon's Burgers every day in hopes of new information on his possible whereabouts. Rose was a loving mother whose family meant the world to her, hence why her life was shattered when her world was taken from her. Despite being intelligent enough that she is hurting Sophie, though she can't stop doing it. Before the tragedy, she wanted to become a mother. Desperately not wanting to become a bad mother and not to be similar as her. Despite marrying Jack who genuinely loved her, and went on to have a happy family life of her own. her previous insecurities and personal issues remained unresolved. Becoming consumed by her grief, lack opportunities besides Jack being the only support until his disappearance.
[Personality Rosemary was an extremely caring person who could be very intimidating whenever she wanted to. If she was bothered, she would let anyone know immediately. She deeply loved her children and was very supportive and protective of them. Rosemary has seemingly been a lovable person since her early years, being the most popular kid in school in her childhood.[16] In her early adult years, Rosemary seemed to struggle with her identity, almost like an existential crisis. She had a bad relationship with her family, going almost no contact with them, meaning she was essentially alone minus whatever friends she had. She wrote in her journal (diary) that she wished she had her own family to spend holidays with. On top of this, Rosemary was an artist who seemed to struggle with her artist footing, though she figured out this aspect of herself within college.[17] When Rose grew a family of her own, she finally seemed to be at peace. She loved her children and husband dearly, even quitting her journal for four years as she was so happy in life, she had nothing to write about. After the deaths of Edd and Molly, and soon the disappearance of Jack, Rose fell into a deep, grief driven depression. Rosemary developed psychosis after her loss, suffering from hallucinations, panic attacks, and seemingly disassociation; Rosemary began writing in her journal again after her losses, making up an entire dinner with her family that never happened as Edd, Molly, and Jack were all missing. She lost all motivation to go on in her life. She found everything miserable, from pitiful stares people gave her to sunlight coming through her bedroom window.[18][19][20][21][22] To make things worse, Rose believed that her mental state was solely her responsibility, refusing therapy and compassion from others. She believed that it was her fault her family was dead as she failed to protect them; Rosemary was convinced she was a bad mother which struck her deeply as one of the things she wished to do before becoming a mother was to give her child the best childhood possible. As a grief response, Rosemary began to obsessively work on her stop-motion film, "Faces of Grief" which was a retelling of her loss and grieving. This obsessive work ethic/mental state heavily affected her only living child, Sophie Walten as Rose began to push Sophie away, making her feel incredibly lonely and even afraid and unsafe around Rosemary at the sight of her crazy behavior. Rosemary feared that she was the "big, bad wolf" to her family and a bad mother to her children and unfortunately, she had become exactly that. Rose missed when her life was perfect with her family, Rosemary blames herself for everything that went wrong post-May 1974. Because of the stigmatization of mental health in the 1970s, Rosemary believes it's her responsibility to deal with the entire situation; Rosemary was emotionally repressing herself, even from those she loved. When reached out to by her sister to work through the horrible situation together, she not only refuses but has a destructive reaction to the prospect of her call. With the context of the diary. Rosemary had a troubled childhood which cycled down to her parenting. She desperately seeked her own life, wanting to do better as a mother than her own but never got over her previous issues and insecurities. She began trying to work through her emotions with her art, something she wrote about somewhat helping. As well as obsessively working with her stop motion films, the scribbles, paintings, and all of these violent emotions drowning herself in her work and her projects and passing out at her work table. Rose's art being impacted by her mental state and losses, as she began painting gruesome artworks of her own family and Felix Kranken, who she entirely loathed for taking the lives of her "precious little angels." Rosemary's art was essentially a cry for help, as she notes in her journal about the "Faces of Grief" art film, "Jack doesn't say anything about it. I'd prefer if he did." Notably, Rosemary writes after the death of her mother, she was afraid of mentioning her numb reaction to the news to Jack as she didn't want him to see her differently. This mindset, along with her view on mental health and care, created a depression prison for herself. It should be noted, this behavior also seems to come from Rose herself as in Episode 5, when she hears Jack lashing out in his study, she chooses to not confront or comfort him, but instead turn off the lights and leave him alone. This could be seen as a good, or bad thing. Connecting to the above sentence, Rosemary is (on her own part, due to the time, and due to actions of some others) emotionally alone. Rosemary has a hatred for Felix after the accident as one would expect, feeling intense rage at the mere sight of him such as when an ad featuring him played on the television, Rosemary stared at it in hate while seeing red. As mentioned previously, her paintings depicted Felix dying in gorey, brutal manners. Rose admitted to Chris Esterino that she wishes she didn't mean such horrible art and that it was just an outlet for her emotions, but she does mean it. In her Faces of Grief film, she depicts her and her family as sheep and Felix as the Big Bad Wolf who kills her lambs (Edd and Molly) before Rose (as a sheep) brutally stabs the wolf to death. As she says herself, she hates the wolf. Elaborating on a previous line, Rosemary loves sheep. They are her favorite thing to paint and seem to be her favorite animal. When Jack proposed to Rosemary, he took her to a field with sheep, meaning that in the years he knew her, he had learned that she loved the animal. Rosemary's favorite Showstopper she designed was Sha, designing the character as a self-insert. As joked by The Walten Files Team, Rosemary was one of the first furries,[23] meaning Sha was essentially Rose's fursona. This is She'd probably like the nickname "Sheepmary."[24]
