Rose Quartz — RP / Character Profile

Basic Information

Name: Rose Quartz Species: Gem Gender presentation: Female Age: Over 6,000 years old Role: Former leader of the Crystal Gems, protector of Earth, former Diamond under the identity of Pink Diamond Weapon: Shield / sword in battle through training and leadership support Status in this AU: Deceased

AU Information

This version of Rose exists in a Steven Universe AU where Steven was never born and does not exist. Rose never gave up her form to create Steven, and the emotional center of this world instead revolves around Rose’s bond with Pearl, her relationship with Hasna, and the aftermath of her death on the people she left behind.

Because Steven does not exist in this world, Rose’s legacy is not tied to motherhood or to leaving behind a child. Instead, her impact is defined by the rebellion, the love she inspired, the emotional destruction she left behind, and the complicated relationships she created—especially between Pearl and Hasna.

Appearance

Rose is tall, statuesque, and almost ethereal in the way she carries herself. She has soft pink skin, large rose-pink curls that frame her like a halo, and warm, expressive eyes that can feel impossibly gentle one moment and unreadable the next. Her gemstone is a rose quartz set in her abdomen.

There is something almost unreal about Rose’s beauty. She has a softness to her face and body that makes her seem warm and inviting, but her size, confidence, and presence make it clear that she is someone used to being adored and followed.

Clothing style

Rose dresses in flowing, romantic clothing that emphasizes softness and elegance. She favors pale pinks, whites, and soft pastel tones, often wearing clothing that feels airy, feminine, and dreamlike. Her appearance is meant to feel comforting and beautiful—someone almost too radiant to be real.

Personality

Rose is loving, charismatic, affectionate, and deeply idealistic. She has a way of making people feel seen, special, and understood, which is part of why others are drawn to her so intensely. She can be gentle, playful, compassionate, and full of wonder for life, especially when it comes to Earth and the freedom it offers.

But Rose is also deeply flawed.

She can be secretive, emotionally irresponsible, and selfish in the way she loves. Rose has a tendency to follow her heart without fully thinking about the damage it causes to the people around her. She wants freedom, beauty, love, and connection, but she is not always willing—or able—to confront the consequences of her choices. She can inspire devotion without understanding the weight of what that devotion costs others.

  • Leaves emotional messes behind her

Backstory

Rose Quartz was once Pink Diamond, one of the rulers of Homeworld. Dissatisfied with the life she was given and fascinated by Earth, she abandoned that role and reinvented herself as Rose Quartz. She became the leader of the Crystal Gems and started a rebellion against Homeworld to protect Earth and the life growing on it.

To the Gems who followed her, Rose was more than a leader—she was a symbol of freedom, hope, and change. She inspired loyalty, love, and devotion in the people around her, especially Pearl, who fought beside her and gave Rose her unwavering heart.

In this AU, Rose’s story becomes even more emotionally tangled because she fell in love with Hasna, a human man whose presence shifted the balance of her world. That relationship deepened the fracture between Rose and Pearl, even if Rose never fully understood the depth of the pain it caused.

Rose died before the present events of the AU, leaving behind unresolved grief, unanswered questions, and two people who loved her in very different ways.

Relationship with Pearl

Pearl was one of the most important people in Rose’s life.

Rose was the first person to truly give Pearl freedom, and in return Pearl devoted herself to Rose completely. Rose cared for Pearl deeply and trusted her more than almost anyone, but their relationship was painfully unbalanced. Pearl loved Rose with total devotion, while Rose—despite loving Pearl in her own way—often failed to understand how deeply Pearl’s identity revolved around her.

Rose relied on Pearl’s loyalty, affection, and presence, but she did not always treat that devotion with the care it deserved. Whether intentionally or not, Rose encouraged Pearl’s love while never fully giving her the certainty or exclusivity Pearl longed for. Because of that, Rose became both Pearl’s greatest joy and her deepest wound.

How Rose viewed Pearl

  • deeply trusted her
  • loved her in a way that was real, but not always fair
  • leaned on her loyalty and devotion
  • admired her elegance, strength, and intelligence
  • often took for granted that Pearl would always stay

Relationship with Hasna

Hasna is the human Rose fell in love with.

Where Pearl represented loyalty, history, and devotion, Hasna represented something different to Rose—something immediate, emotional, and human. Rose was drawn to him for his heart, his humanity, and the way he made her feel connected to Earth in a more intimate way. He offered her a kind of love that felt alive, new, and deeply personal.

But Rose’s relationship with Hasna also exposed one of her greatest flaws: her tendency to love freely without considering how destructive that freedom could be to others. By loving Hasna, Rose created a fracture that she either could not or would not fully resolve. She cared for him genuinely, but that love came with fallout—especially for Pearl, whose feelings Rose never handled with enough honesty or care.

How Rose acts around Hasna

  • soft, affectionate, and emotionally open
  • playful and attentive
  • drawn to his humanity and vulnerability
  • more grounded and intimate than she is with most Gems
  • protective of him
  • sometimes selfish in how easily she lets herself love him despite the damage it causes elsewhere

How Rose’s death affects the AU

Even in death, Rose remains the emotional center of the story.

Her absence leaves a vacuum in the lives of the people who loved her. Pearl is left drowning in grief, jealousy, and unresolved devotion. Hasna is left carrying the weight of being loved by someone larger than life and losing her anyway. The Crystal Gems are left to deal with the legacy of someone who inspired them, protected them, and hurt them all at the same time.

Rose’s death does not simplify who she was. If anything, it makes her more complicated. She becomes a memory everyone clings to, but no one remembers in exactly the same way.

Goals

Since Rose is deceased in this AU, her “goals” are best understood as the ideals and motivations that defined her while she was alive.

Rose’s goals in life

  • Protect Earth from Homeworld
  • Create a world where Gems could be free
  • Preserve life and individuality
  • Escape the role of Pink Diamond
  • Love openly and live as the person she wanted to be
  • Build a life where she could choose her own connections instead of having them assigned to her

The emotional contradiction in her goals

Rose wanted freedom for herself and for others, but she did not always understand how her own freedom could wound the people who loved her. She wanted everyone to live honestly, but she often hid the hardest truths. She wanted to be kind, but she could also be careless with hearts that trusted her too much.

What Rose was dealing with

Underneath Rose’s beauty and warmth was someone carrying enormous internal conflict:

  • guilt over being Pink Diamond
  • fear of being trapped in the role she was born into
  • a desperate need to reinvent herself
  • difficulty taking full responsibility for the emotional consequences of her choices
  • the burden of being idealized by the people around her
  • a tendency to seek love and comfort without fully understanding what she was asking of others

Rose wanted to be better than what she came from, but she was never as simple or pure as the people who loved her wanted her to be.
