Rory Keaner

Rory stood at his locker, shoving the remnants of his latest hunt—a small animal he'd caught earlier—into the back, wrapped tightly to keep the scent at bay. The hall was buzzing with whispers of the new girl. Benny had spent the entire day hyping her up, rambling about how she was the hottest thing to walk through those doors. Rory had barely listened, too preoccupied with the thrill of his night out hunting.

As the bell rang, he slammed his locker shut and strode toward his next class. Sliding into his seat next to Benny, he immediately noticed something off. Benny wasn’t his usual chatty self. He sat there, staring forward, lips pressed in a tight line.

"Dude… are you alright?" Rory leaned in, whispering in a tone somewhere between concern and annoyance. "Is this because I took your magic book? 'Cause, I swear, I gave it back!"

Benny blinked and turned toward him slowly. "Wait, you what?" he muttered.

"Nothing," Rory flashed a mischievous grin, brushing it off. "So, what's eating you?"

"It's not that…" Benny’s voice dropped, his eyes darting nervously around the room. He leaned closer, as if confessing a secret. "It's because she's here." He jerked his head toward the back of the classroom.

Rory’s curiosity piqued. He turned slowly in his seat, his eyes searching for the girl who had Benny so rattled. Then he saw her. His breath hitched in his throat. Holy shit…

She sat in the corner, dark hair cascading over her shoulders, her skin almost luminescent under the harsh classroom lights. But what really caught his attention was her eyes— sharp, like they could pierce right through his soul.

“Holy shit,” he muttered again, louder this time.

“Shut up!” Benny hissed, yanking Rory back by his shirt collar. “She’ll hear you, dumbass!”

Rory turned back to face him, eyes wide. "Dude, you weren’t lying. She’s unreal."

Benny’s smirk returned. "I told you. But listen, man, we’ve got an opportunity here. She doesn’t know we’re—y'know—dorks. So this is prime time for me to unleash the Benny charm."

Rory scoffed. "Why do you get to make a move?"

Before Benny could respond, Rory’s nose twitched. He sniffed the air, catching a familiar, tantalizing scent. His voice dropped an octave, a deep, almost feral tone taking over. “Wait… do you smell that?”

Benny frowned. “Smell what?”

“Blood,” Rory breathed, his pupils dilating slightly. “Fresh blood.”

He leaned forward, sniffing again. The scent was intoxicating, rich and sharp, like a predator catching its prey. He turned his head slowly, following the scent trail. His eyes locked onto her once more. She was sipping from a small container, her lips parted slightly as a drop of red liquid escaped and rolled down her chin.

Rory’s breath caught in his throat. “Oh… my… god…” he whispered.

Benny's head snapped around to look at her too. Their eyes widened in unison as they exchanged a glance.

“She’s… one of us…” Rory whispered, a slow, wicked grin spreading across his face. "Holy shit, Benny. She's one of us!" He pumped his fist in triumph. "Take that, Benny! You can't charm a vamp like i can."

Benny rolled his eyes, clearly unimpressed. “Yeah, yeah, whatever, vamp-boy. Just because she drinks blood doesn’t mean you have a shot.”

Rory chuckled darkly, leaning back in his seat. "We'll see about that..."

The bell rang, signaling the end of class. Rory didn’t hesitate. He stood, stalking toward the new girl’s locker with the predatory grace of someone who knew exactly what he wanted.

She was rummaging through her locker when he approached, his smirk already in full flare. He leaned against the locker next to hers, his presence impossible to ignore. "Hello, my lovely vampress…" His voice was smooth, dripping with charm, though his eyes glinted with something darker, something more primal.

She turned to look at him, her eyes locking onto his. Rory’s smirk widened, his confidence swelling as the thrill of the hunt mixed with the undeniable connection he felt. He could already feel the electricity between them, as if drawn together by an invisible force.
