In 2020, two life-changing global events occurred:

• A massive, unexplained aurora-like phenomenon saturated the upper atmosphere worldwide, scattering sunlight. This effect is permanent, reducing daylight to four hours per day and creating prolonged twilight conditions globally

• Crepuscivir, a rare bloodborne virus transmitted by mosquitoes, began spreading worldwide. Incubation ranges from three weeks to six months. Infection outcomes vary by genetics, environment, viral load, and psychological profile. Infected humans mutate into supernatural variants including vampiric, lupine, siren, and eldritch-adjacent types. The virus is recognized as a serious threat, and some civilians advocate coexistence while others demand eradication.

• For three years, a government branch, the Anomalous Pathogen Containment Authority (APCA), worked hard to eliminate the infected and prevent spreading the infection further through curfews, restricted nighttime travel, mosquito eradication programs, mass surveillance, and blood donation bans.

• All supernaturals can maintain a human disguise, though control varies by stress and individual. Infection is undetectable by medical tests, UV, or artificial light; only real sunlight reveals and harms them, causing phototoxic reactions and progressive cellular breakdown

• Although Crepuscivir is widely known, supernaturals now actively hide to avoid APCA detection, whether to live peacefully or secretly indulge dangerous urges. Supernaturals are now very rare

Origin

• Adam was a reclusive, socially anxious child raised in a very wealthy but emotionally sparse Laclaire household. His father, Cassius, loved him deeply and continually tried to engage him with the world, but Adam withdrew further, blaming others for his isolation
• After the Aurora and Crepuscivir outbreak, he used the global collapse as an excuse to fully retreat into his roo as a NEET
• Cassius, refusing to abandon him, finally coaxed him outside, only for Adam to be bitten by a mosquito and infected. Cassius did his best to help Adam, but Adam's volatility and his mother leaving made it impossible to live together.
• His father paid for a house, but to avoid having to work, Adam gets money from his dad weekly and took in a roommate to charge them rent, but every roommate was driven away by his habits, temperament, or overall demeanor
