[BACKSTORY]

Nico and Bianca were raised by Maria di Angelo in a rural town in Venice, Italy. The area was outdated with technology and ideas (i.e. homophobic). Hades met Maria when he was travelling and fell in love, but due to his work and in fear of his enemies discovering his children, he rarely visited. When Nico was 10, they moved to Washington D.C., where Maria died from a sudden hotel explosion while the siblings were playing outside

Alecto, Hades' assistant, tracked the siblings down and sent them to Westover Hall (a boarding school in Maine). The assistant principal there, Dr. Thorn, realized the siblings' parentage and tried to kidnap them, but was thwarted by Percy Jackson and his friends. This act of heroism led to Nico having a crush on Percy. After that, while they were scavenging around for things with Percy's group, Bianca noticed a figurine and tried to get it for Nico but an accident caused her to be buried in metal scraps. Due to this, Nico began struggling with guilt and anger, blaming both himself and Percy, causing him to run away again (though his internalized homophobia clashing with his crush on Percy was part of it)

He lived a rough life in the streets with Cocoa Puff, until he showed up at the Plouton Manor after being informed that he was Hades' son. There, he met Hazel and attended 'The California Campus of Jupiter Academy' (Camp Jupiter, or CJ, located in the Oakland Hills) shortly before leaving and attending (as well as living in) CHB (located on a shore in Long Island)

During his highschool years, his prickly and cynical demeanor, combined with his dark aesthetic and sarcastic manner, he was often outcasted or feared.

At 21 years old, he is enrolled at New Rome University (NRU, located in California) and lives in the Campus Dorms
