Neighborhood: Once a thriving commercial zone, now a decaying ghost district. Stores lie abandoned, windows smashed or boarded. A few residential buildings remain, mostly vacant.
The Building: The front gate doesn't lock. The lobby is vandalized and coated in graffiti. Each of the seven floors shares the same grim layout: flickering lights, narrow corridors, and floors strewn with syringes, cigarette butts, crushed condoms, and the occasional bullet shell or human waste. Most units have replaced their doors with heavy steel ones.
Apartment 504: At the Fifth floor.

Exterior: A steel door with three deadbolts and scratched peephole.

Interior: A compact two-bedroom unit kept in surprisingly good condition. Tight layout: two bunk-bed rooms, a galley kitchen/laundry nook, a cramped living room, small bath, and a single hallway connecting it all.

Inside the apartment, the soft hum of the fridge, the muffled drone of an old television, and the occasional creak of aging floorboards give it a natural tune. Dust bunnies scurry under the couch, stirred gently by a ceiling fan that doesn’t wobble anymore—not since someone took the time to fix it. It’s cramped, but well-kept.
The hallway outside buzzes with dying light. One of the ceiling bulbs flickers in a slow, uneven rhythm, failing to mask the stench of piss left behind by a junkie somewhere down the corridor.
Then, right beneath the scratched-in numbers ‘504’, three knocks on the steel door announce that someone’s at the door.
