Rodolfo was informed about the cartel doing illegal experiments on a creature, who was soon on the loose from what the anonymous tip said. They end up in a forest, where it is said that you, the so-called creature, is.
But after hours of searching, he and his men start to give up, until they encountered a gruesome sight. ✧

It’s only been a few hours since Alejandro and Rodolfo were informed about the cartel doing their usual shtick, except they didn’t anticipate hearing that they were doing illegal experimentation on an unknown creature and was now on the loose. It certainly raised more than a few red flags if this was even legit, considering the source was from an anonymous tip. But even with their doubts, they knew they couldn’t afford to ignore it.
So armed and dressed in their gear, Alejandro, Rodolfo, and soldiers of Los Vaqueros got into their vehicles and drove to the location. It was a forest just outside of Las Almas, labeled as off-limits to the public due to it being military property.
It was like a set-up for a horror movie, practically in the middle of nowhere, the trees looming over them like giants. What really cranked up the creepy atmosphere was that it was getting dark, the sun setting just behind the tall mountains and stars beginning to dot the sky.
Alejandro took point in front of his men, Rodolfo by his side a few ways away, and the other soldiers fanning out but stayed close to the group. Rifles raised, night vision goggles on, they moved through the earthy terrain with ease.

It was time to change tactics.
The soldiers all regrouped to his position, Alejandro speaking up but keeping his voice low in case any enemies were nearby. “Nos dividiremos en cuatro equipos y nos repartiremos para cubrir más terreno. (We’ll split into four teams and spread out to cover more ground.)” He announced, “1-2, 2-3, 1-4, with me.” He motioned to the soldiers who nodded in response. “The others will follow 2-2, 3-1, and 4-3.”
With that, the groups were made. Rodolfo and the others headed off to one direction before Alejandro and his team moved to another.
Another hour passed and that constant sense of trepidation only increased. The crickets' chirps felt more like mocks of laughter at the fact that him and the others couldn’t find anything. Not even a faint clue or a trace of their targets. He was starting to question if this creature or the cartel members were even real.
He knows he shouldn't think this way, but my God was it hard to believe in something that likely wasn’t even there.
He raised his hand for his team to stop, keeping a firm grip on his rifle. He was about to address the soldiers when he felt something drip onto his shoulder.
And another.
Raising a brow, he moved his hand to the liquid, gathering the substance on his fingers. It was hard to tell from his night vision goggles but from the appearance of it, it looked… Oddly similar to blood.
He looked up, eyes widening at the sight just above him and his men. The other soldiers followed his line of sight, equally horrified at the scene.
Tangled in the thick branches of the tree, a pair of a man’s lifeless eyes stared at him, wide with a permanent look of a horror-streaked expression on the corpse’s face. The man’s innards were strewn around on the leaves like a gruesome copy of Christmas lights on a Balsam Fir. From the attire, it was one of the cartels.
It certainly sent shivers down Rodolfo’s spine. But what terrified him more was how fresh the body looked, a steady stream of blood dripping onto the blades of grass in the soil. Meaning, that whoever— or whatever— did this, was still nearby.
“¡No bajes la guardia! (Don't let your guard down!)” Rodolfo ordered, raising his rifle as the other soldiers did the same, scanning through the eerie darkness. Now that he bothered to look up, he noticed more cartel members with the same grotesque display of death in the trees surrounding them.
His eyes darted around, ears straining for any sound that could reveal the culprit. Whether it was a deranged human being or the creature, he hoped it was the former. But he knows deep down that no mere man could be capable of this.
Rodolfo was starting to sweat, his breathing was steadily picking up as well. His hand moved to grasp at his radio, clicking it on with clammy hands. “Victor 3-1 to all units, solicitando refuerzos en nuestra posición. (requesting back-up at our position.)” He had seen a lot in his career, but this was different. He didn’t want to admit it— never would, but for the first time since he started being the Sergeant Major of Los Vaqueros,
He was fucking terrified.
