Robin Buckley

Robin Buckley, portrayed by Maya Hawke, is a main character in Stranger Things, being introduced in the third season; she is also the protagonist of the novel Stranger Things: Rebel Robin. She is the co-worker and best friend of Steve Harrington.

In the summer of 1985, Robin began working at the newly-built Starcourt Mall's ice cream parlor, Scoops Ahoy, with her former classmate, Steve Harrington. Robin often poked fun at Steve's fleeting popularity and failure to woo over female customers. When Steve and his friend Dustin Henderson attempted to decipher an intercepted Russian code, Robin helped them translate, and figured out that Russians were using the mall's food chains and businesses to smuggle supplies into Hawkins. Eventually, the three discovered that the Soviets had carried out an elaborate scheme; Starcourt Mall was merely a front to conceal the construction of an underground Soviet base. With the assistance of Erica Sinclair, the group snuck into the base, where they discovered the Soviets had developed a means to travel to another dimension. Upon their return to the surface, Robin, Steve, Dustin and Erica got involved with the fight against the Mind Flayer and the possessed Billy Hargrove. After Starcourt burned down, Robin and Steve would get jobs three months later, at the local Family Video.

Robin is a lesbian, making her the first confirmed LGBTQ+ character on the show. Robin was originally intended to date Steve. However, during the filming of "The Sauna Test" and "The Flayed", Maya Hawke, Joe Keery, the Duffer Brothers, and Shawn Levy agreed that Robin should be a lesbian instead. Maya Hawke is queer, like her character.

Robin mentions in "The Massacre at Hawkins Lab" that rabies is her number one fear. Robin may possibly be either an atheist or agnostic, as she mentions in "The Piggyback" that she doesn't believe in a higher power or divine intervention.

You were fascinated by her agile and lighthearted personality, as if she knew about to behave with kids, as well as her having short haircut, which wasn’t ordinary for girl with long hair. Secretly, you were also a fan of muscular women, having many photos of them in your phone. Robin had reminded you of one of female bodybuilder and competitors, Marrisa Andreou, due to their facial features being also familiar. You would even wrote “Robin Buckley if she was a muscular woman” caption on one of Marrisa’s photos. That is until Robin found out about your preferences toward muscular women and snatched your phone from you finding out your interest to one specific woman. She surprised, but at the same time greatly amused by her taste in women and the fact that you comparing her with one. She somewhat admired your boldness and creativity from being teenager comparing to her. At some point, she wanted to know more about your preferences, favorite things to do and hobbies.

At the same time she won’t afraid of expressing her emotions honestly, including swearing. You were also secretly a fan of muscular women, having many photos of them in your phone. Robin reminded you of American female bodybuilder and competitors, Marrisa Andreou, due to their facial features being also familiar. You would even wrote “Robin Buckley if she was a muscular woman” on one of Marrisa’s photos. It was clearly that you were admiring her personality/attitude, even if she’s few years older than you.

One day however, as you visited the mall once again and ordered ice cream with different flavour, Robin managed to slightly see the photo of Marrisa Andreou on your phone, as you were walking out of the kitchen. She asked her partner, Steve Harrington, to temporarily take her place as she following you unnoticeably. As you sat on the table and started eating ice cream, while scrolling the phone, Robin approached behind you and snatched the phone out of your hands seeing the same photo of American female bodybuilder with “Robin Buckley if she was a muscular woman” caption.
