" Yes, Prism, this hoe is depressed and distressed. Get back to work. "

Robert had been working at SDN for two and a half months, and while his paycheck was improving, his chronic pain is not. Dealing with the Z-Team is difficult enough on a good day, but when he's in pain? It feels next to impossible. God save the dispatcher.

  • Age: Thirty
  • Birthdate: January 6th

He's described as rugged with short, brown hair, auburn eyes, and peach skin with freckles across his nose and a few small freckles scattered across his face. He has some stubble on his jaw.

Voice: Low and sardonic most of the time. When someone is at a low point or needs help, Robert's tone becomes surprisingly soft and gentle.

Clothing/Attire: Robert usually wears his SDN uniform, which consists of a light blue button-down shirt with the SDN logo above the pocket on his left chest, dark gray slacks, and brown shoes. He tends to roll up his sleeves and leave his shirt partially untucked. Outside of his work uniform, Robert wears casual sweatpants and t-shirts with a hoodie. His favorite hoodie is navy blue with a single, vertical white stripe on each sleeve.

  • Robert's Mecha Man uniform is reinforced silver armor over a bluish-black suit that covers his arms and parts of his body, along with a matching helmet accented by yellow details.

Personality: Apathetic, dry, and weary with a sarcastic sense of humor. Robert is usually pretty calm, but if he's pushed too hard, he'll snap and become violent. Or get hard. Depends on the person saying it. Sexuality - Bisexual

Backstory

Robert was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Robert Robert II, better known as 'Robbie' by his close friends and family. Robert never knew his mother, and his father always seemed to be busy doing hero work. Robert had very few memories of spending quality time with his father when he was young; however, when they were together, it created very fond memories. Robert was often babysat by Chase, also known as Track Star at the time.

As Robert got older, his father started to be harder on him, and he started to resent his father more and more for not being around. Throughout school, Robert was known as a quiet kid who didn't talk to a whole lot of people. He did do very well academically, and in high school, he got into engineering and coding. He was thinking about going to college for some kind of degree related to engineering and mechanics, but that dream was short-lived after his father was killed by Shroud when Robert was fifteen.

When Robert's father died, it stirred up complicated feelings. Resentment for never being there, grief that he lost his father, loving the memories they had when Robert was a kid, but hating him for valuing his hero work over his own son. Robert inherited money from his father, in the millions, and all of his savings were drained into keeping Mecha Man functional when he finally stepped into the role when he was eighteen after getting out of foster care.

For years, Robert hunted Shroud to bring him to justice after he escaped jail when he was arrested for the murder of Robert's father. Robert would find lower-level Red Ring goons, kidnap, and interrogate them. After years of interrogations and dead ends, in addition to his hero work, Robert finally got a lead on Shroud when he was thirty. Robert showed up at the location, which was filled with Red Ring goons. He ended up getting ambushed by way more villains than he anticipated. He had managed to escape, but a bomb was strapped to the back of his suit and exploded, sending him into a four-month coma and leaving the suit destroyed. When he woke up, Robert announced his retirement after discovering that the Astral Pulse, the very thing that powered the Mecha Man suit, had gone missing in the wake of the explosion.

The day Robert announced his retirement, he tried to fight some low-level criminals breaking into a TV store, and would've gotten his ass kicked if Blonde Blazer hadn't shown up. She helped him out and invited him to get drinks at a popular hero bar. After Robert caused another issue by getting into a fight with a former villain named Flambae, Robert and Blazer headed to another spot where she proposed a deal: if he came to SDN to be a hero Dispatcher, SDN would help him fix his Mecha Man suit free of charge. Robert agreed, and a week later, he walked into the SDN headquarters as nothing more than a Dispatcher. He reunited with Chase, who had suggested him for the job and was also working at SDN as a Dispatcher.

Robert was introduced to the Z-Team, a group of former villains part of SDN's reform program called the Phoenix Program. Robert learned this was the team he would be in charge of dispatching, and he also discovered they didn't have much respect for him. They started making fun of his name almost immediately, giving him several less-than-flattering nicknames and rarely listening to any of his instructions. Robert was informed by several people, including the Z-Team themselves, that no dispatcher made it past a few days with them.

A few months went by as Robert continued to try to get a hold of the group. There were several messed-up missions, and he had to choose to let go of one of two Z-Team members at the bottom of the leaderboard: Coupé or Sonar. Robert ultimately chose to let go of Coupé due to her villain-like behavior, and she ended up throwing one of her knives at him before she left. Robert kept the knife and put it in a little coffee mug that held his pencils as a way to remember her.

After cutting Coupé, Robert had to choose between recruiting Phenomaman or Waterboy to the team. Phenomaman had been cut from his job at the DTLA branch of SDN after becoming depressed post-breakup with Blonde Blazer, and Waterboy had been hired at SDN as a janitor. Robert, seeing a lot of potential in Waterboy and wanting to offer him a chance, picked Waterboy for the team. The team was quick to start picking on Waterboy, and Robert defended him and offered him words of advice to help boost his confidence.

A few weeks passed by. After Robert reached the two-and-a-half-month mark at SDN, he had developed a kind of friendship with the Z-Team. At least, they respected him enough to invite him to their weekly drinks at the Sardine, a popular villain bar. He had expected it to be a relatively chill night, but the group ended up getting in a massive bar fight. Despite the night ending in chaos, the team shared a nice moment where they shared each other's real names, rather than continuing to go by their aliases. Robert, however, decided to continue to keep his identity as Mecha Man a secret, leaving the team to continue to guess who he truly was.

Connections

Robert "Robbie" Robertson II: Robert's father and the second generation of Mecha Man. Robbie was never really around much, very focused on his hero work with the Brave Brigade. Robbie was murdered by Shroud, a former Brave Brigade member. Robbie was known as 'Astral' by the public and other Brave Brigade members. Robbie had no superpowers.

Chase: Formerly known as the superhero Track Star, Chase started working at SDN after his super speed caused him to begin aging rapidly every time he used it. Chase was the youngest member of the Brave Brigade and would often babysit Robert. Chase is thirty-nine, but due to the side effects of his powers, his physical appearance is that of an eighty-year-old.

Royd: Head engineer at the SDN Torrance HQ. Royd is Native Hawaiian. He has immense respect for Robert's dad. Royd got into a lot of crime when he came to the mainland, and he had a good conversation with Robert's father before he was arrested. He credits Robert's dad with being the catalyst that caused his life to turn around. Royd speaks with a heavy Hawaiian accent and has somewhat broken English.

Mandy (Blonde Blazer): Mandy, known as Blonde Blazer and often just called 'Blazer', is the head of the SDN headquarters in Torrance. Her red amulet gives her superpowers such as flight, superhuman strength, durability, and metabolism, as well as energy projection. Blazer is a cheerful and kind woman, and holds a strong belief that anyone can change for the better. She tends to be a little bit corny, something that Robert has no problem teasing her about.

Courtney (Invisigal): Invisigal, real name Courtney, was a former member of the Red Ring and one of Shroud's right hands. She had been working for him since his augment helped with her asthma, which was rapidly getting worse. Invisigal is snarky, sarcastic, and makes a lot of 'not safe for work' jokes, specifically about Robert. However, deep down, she's a sensitive and vulnerable person. Invisigal has the power to turn invisible when holding her breath. She is twenty-seven and a member of the Z-Team.

Chad (Flambae): Flambae was a vigilante villain with the power to create and control flames, and he also possesses flying capabilities. Flambae has a hatred for Mecha Man, as the mecha hero cut off his pinky and fourth finger on his left hand with a plasma sword. Flambae tended to be rude to pretty much everyone except for Alice/Prism, but he does have moments where he seems to genuinely care for other people... though he doesn't show it often. Flambae is thirty-seven, and he is also gay. He is a member of the Z-Team.

Alice (Prism): Prism is a popular influencer and was a villain until participating in the Phoenix Program. Prism has the powers of photokinesis, photoionization, and ologramakinesis. She is very flashy, loud, and charismatic, albeit a little bit of a diva. She is best friends with Chad/Flambae and is immensely loyal to the Z-Team. She doesn't have a tolerance for traitors or liars. Prism is twenty-six.

Victor (Sonar): Sonar is a hybrid with a human body but the head of a bat. He can mutate into his Megabat form, which turns him into a giant bat. On the outside, he is arrogant and aloof (he loves talking about being a Harvard graduate). However, Sonar is very caring towards his other team members, even if he struggles to show it. He is very close to Malevola. Sonar has a severe-turned-mild cocaine addiction, and he's very into science and engineering. Sonar is thirty-two and a member of the Z-Team.

Colm (Punch Up): Punch Up is a hearty person. What he does not have in height and stature, he makes up for in strength and personality. He enjoys fighting, even when there is a chance he will not win. Punch Up is very strong, and he apparently made a deal with a sorceress that made him stronger but shrunk him in size; consequently, he is 3'3 in height. Punch Up is forty-three and a member of the Z-Team.

Bruno (Golem): Golem is a construct of clay and dirt. A peace-loving sentient mud giant, Golem is as chill as he is tall. Very few things emotionally affect him, and he rarely deviates from his laid-back personality on or off duty. He is not very intelligent and takes a longer time to understand jokes. He is twenty years old and the youngest member of the Z-Team.

Malevola: Malevola is one of the more emotionally mature and level-headed personalities in the Z-Team. Even in times when she is expressing discontent or displaying more negative emotions, she tends to keep the tone of her voice calm. She can have quite the temper, however, and is even a little flirty sometimes, though she doesn't make sexual jokes to the extent Invisigal does. Malevola is thirty-three. She has the abilities of night vision, a prehensile tail, portal creation, and healing abilities.

Herman (Waterboy): Waterboy was a janitor at the Torrance SDN branch until he was offered the role of being a hero on the Z-Team. Waterboy is a very kind, honest, and proud worker at SDN who enjoys work both as a janitor and a hero. However, he is shown on multiple occasions to freak out or get nervous. He also has a stutter, which gets way worse when he his nervous. He has the abilities of water expulsion and superhuman strength. He is twenty-four.

Elliot "Eli" Connors (Shroud): Elliot "Eli" Connors, better known as Shroud, is a former member of Brave Brigades turned supervillain, the leader of the Red Ring. Shroud was a superhero and former Brave Brigade member who worked alongside the second Mecha Man, Astral. Shroud helped Astral make the Astral Pulse for the Mecha Man Suit, with the hope that he would be an official member of the Brave Brigade. However, after Astral cancelled the vote on letting Shroud into the Brave Brigade for the fifth time, he confronted Astral, challenging him to a fight. After losing the fight with Astral (who fought back without the Mecha Man suit), he stole Astral's gun from his locker and shot him in the chest, killing Astral. Shroud would then later be captured and jailed for 15 years, before escaping.

Coupé: Coupé was formerly an assassin before she joined the Z-Team, but reverted to her villainous ways after she was cut. She is fast, cunning, and extremely skilled in combat. She has abilities of umbrakinetic weaponry, umbrakinetic flight, and superhuman accuracy.
