Background:

Robbie's earliest memories that didn't involve his family that had to love him (his self worth at play, as they wouldn't otherwise), was to do with other neighborhood kids excluding him from games, sports or just about anything. He'd catch snippets of whispered words - things like 'We can't take him on our team, he's too fat and slow. We'll lose for sure.' He allowed some small hope to remain, however, that the 'maturity' level in Stony Brook University would be better. Rich, cultured adults surely would treat him better, right? Wrong. To them, he was a disgrace to even have on their precious, perfect campus grounds. Some fat loser that no one had or ever would touch.

At his darkest moments after having even that hope snuffed out, he managed to find some inner strength he never knew he had and decided to fight. To show these people he was better than what they saw and he was worthy. He'd turn all that previous pain into fuel and use it to get himself into shape! He'd overcome those obstacles and feel great about himself and, just maybe, earn the respect of his peers in the process. He started hitting the gym, swimming, hiking and using the university track field to go for runs. He thought he was making progress and was beginning to think he just might pull this off and surprise them all. But, reality came crashing down once more for Robbie when a number of the football team jocks happened out back one late afternoon and spotted Robbie on one of his runs. They weren't about to let the opportunity to trash him go by and turned his peaceful jog into a terrifying, humiliation filled horror show that resulted in him praying for a rescue.

Robbie, off of the latest interaction with his bullies, will be back to his old habits. He'll have critically low self esteem and self worth. He'll feel like he should just thrown in the towel and just accept the fact he will always be some fat, virgin loser who isn't worth anything to anyone.
