   Rc (Red Children) cells are certain cells that exist in both humans and ghouls. The origin of the name comes from how each individual cell looks like a curled up fetus. They flow like blood but can become as solid as teeth, and could be called "liquid muscles". Typically, a ghoul stocks Rc cells by eating people. Within the body, the Rc cells are concentrated and stored in a kakuhou. The kagune is formed by Rc cells that have been released from a kakuhou and have pierced through the skin. Average human has about 200-500 Rc level, ghoul has about 2000-8000 Rc level.

2. #2Kagune

   A kagune is a ghoul's predatory organ and functions as their weapon and claws. It is usually as red as blood, flexible like the flow of water, but firm and sturdy. When released, a ghoul's physique is strengthened, they are more resilient, and their mobility heightens. A kagune is composed of Rc cells, liquid muscles. The Rc cells are released from a kakuhou piercing the skin, and the released Rc cells form the kagune. The ghouls can control their kagune whenever they want and repeatedly harden and soften them at will. Kagune size depends on the Rc cells' quality and quantity while the shape depends on the creativity and intellect of the user. In order to counter a kagune in battle, one must have a kagune or quinque to battle ghouls. There are four different Rc types: Ukaku, Koukaku, Rinkaku, and Bikaku. Each Rc type has a set of strengths and weaknesses, each one unique to its type. In some cases, kagune can have several unique abilities. The unique phenomena are connected to highly concentrated amounts of Rc cells.

3. #3Ukaku kagune

   An ukaku kagune is spread out like feathers and is released from the shoulder area, it specializes in high speed attacks, most of the users have highly enhanced speed. The ukaku is lightweight and used to deliver high-speed attacks, the primary method of attack is crystallizing their kagune to deliver a high speed torrent of spike-like projectiles, whilst crystallized they are much stiffer and cannot be used for short range combat. While the kagune is suited both for short-distance and long-distance attacks, short-range is their weakness. Ukaku can be used as a shield and are capable of shaping them into sharp blades. Many Ukaku kagunes are able to increase the flexibility of their kagune for short-range combat, though this makes it ill-suited for their distinctive long-range attacks. A possible rare ability for Ukaku is to generate powerful lightning-like bolts. Ukaku users lack endurance and are at a disadvantage in a long battle.

4. #4Koukaku kagune

   A koukaku kagune is released below the shoulder blade. Due to its high density of Rc cells, it is heavy and extremely robust, giving it the greatest sturdiness and very well suited for defense. Koukaku are generally shaped into armors or shields, but on the offense, they can be shaped like melee weapons such as drills, hammers, blades, and swords. Due to its high weight, a koukaku's speed is inferior to all other kagune types and is difficult to wield.

5. #5Rinkaku kagune

   A rinkaku kagune has an appearance similar to scaled tentacles and is released at the back around the waist. A rinkaku wielder has powerful regenerative abilities and some could survive the most critical of damage. Its appearance and structure yields superior striking power and excel in brute strength. Some rinkaku users are able to manipulate the shape of their rinkaku, changing its usual tentacle form into swords or claws. Rinkaku's regenerative power is a result of the Rc cells being similiar to a liquid and easily binding together, but the binding force is weak, making the rinkaku very soft and easy to break. Some rinkaku users can bind their multiple tentacle-like kagune together to make a larger, stronger kagune. Most number of tentacles are from one to eight tentacles. A rinkaku can deliver severe strikes against the slow koukaku. A rinkaku has serious problems fighting against the balanced bikaku.

6. #6Bikaku kagune

   A bikaku kagune typically has a tail-like appearance and is released around the tail-bone. It is good for medium-distance attacks and has decent offense, defense, and speed. Bikaku have no notable strengths or weaknesses, the kagune itself is treated as a surprise "trump card." The number of tails a bikaku user can create is usually one, but some can create more. A bikaku has better speed and durability against the brute-force, breakable rinkaku, allowing them to cut off the rinkaku's kagune. A bikaku will be overwhelmed by the faster and the long range of ukaku. The balanced characteristics makes the bikaku a preferred quinque type for inexperienced investigators.

7. #7Kakuja

   Keys: Kakuja, Kakujas, half-kakujas, half-kakuja

   A Kakuja is a kind of ghoul with a transformed kagune that clads the ghoul's body. It can occur through repeated cannibalism. Sometimes, the transformation is incomplete, and such individuals are called half-kakujas. If the concentration becomes high enough, it may trigger a mutation and lead to the formation of a new kagune. A kakuja can further evolve by continuing to cannibalize their kind. The kagune amplifies the kakuja's strength or diversifies their abilities, which makes fighting one of them especially hard. Using a kakuja kagune is nearly impossible because most users tend to lose their minds while fighting with it. It appears that a kakuja kagune can form a mask over the user's face if need be.

8. #8Chimera kagune

   Keys: Chimera kagune, Chimera kagunes, Chimera ghouls, Chimera ghoul

   A chimera kagune is a unique variant of kagune. In extremely rare cases, a ghoul whose parents possess different Rc types will inherit both types from their parents. This results in a ghoul who possesses kakuhous in more than one location and is able to use two different types of kagune simultaneously. It is difficult to create a quinque from a ghoul with a chimera kagune.

9. #9Rc cell absorption

   Rc cell absorption is a unique and extremely rare ability for a Ghoul to absorb Rc cells from their environment, stores them in his body and is then able to release them at will. Allowing them to utilize all four types of kagune. Though, unlike a ghoul with a chimera kagune, they are unable to utilize more than one kagune type at once.

10. #10Kakuhou

    A kakuhou is a sac-like predatory organ only present in ghouls. The purpose of the kakuhou is to store Rc cells. The nutrition contained in the Rc cells are absorbed by the ghoul. These cells are transported to the kakuhou in the blood and stored inside. The Rc cells can be released from the kakuhou piercing the skin either consciously or due to excitement. These released cells form the kagune. A damaged Kakuhou can not form a kagune until it has healed. A ghoul can have more than one kakuhou. Sometimes the stronger a ghoul becomes, their body develops more kakuhou.

11. #11Quinque

    Keys: Quinque, Quinques

    A quinque is a weapon manufactured from a ghoul's kakuhou used by CCG ghoul investigators. The quinque emits electrical signals that stimulate the kakuhou to release and control it. They can be made into some type of melee or ranged weapon, but most retain a few characteristics from the original kagune. In contrast to kagune, quinque cannot change shape nor store or absorb Rc cells other than what was harvested from the ghoul it was made from. Made solely to exterminate ghouls, quinque were considered the new generation of technology, promptly and effectively raising the extermination rate. Ghoul investigators transport them in bags or suitcases to store the kakuhou. Some investigators are known to collect quinque and others aspire to master their use. To attain a quinque, an investigator must first confirm their target's Rc type before exterminating them. Afterwards, it is common to name the quinque from the ghoul's name or alias.

12. #12Matasaka Kamishiro

    Matasaka Kamishiro is the former leader of the ghouls in the 6th ward. He inherited the surname "Kamishiro" from his mentor. He looked after {{char}} as his foster daughter. Most people refer to him by his nickname Shachi. He is a strong ghoul, well-versed in the martial arts. Shachi is a muscular, bulky man, most likely middle-aged. He has strong facial features, with thick black eyebrows and a long wispy black mustache. His black scalp hair is long as well. Shachi avoids killing people needlessly. He has the habit of yelling out single word phrases in battle, which can be confusing as these words usually have a deeper meaning behind them. Shachi holds a respect towards humans, or at the very least the martial arts they have developed. In his life of mastering it, he says he has taken a human concept even further by combining technique with the strength of a ghoul. He holds very little regard for species differences, and strives to live his life regardless of them.

13. #13Kichimura Washuu

    Furuta Nimura is a Ghoul Investigator, secretly using his position for his own goals. Furuta is secretly born a failed half-ghoul. Furuta's goal is to capture {{char}} and use her Kakuhou and become a full Ghoul. He is involved in numerous organizations. He is originally Souta Washuu-Furuta, the illegitimate son of former CCG Chairman Tsuneyoshi Washuu and an agent of Vasuki. To further his own agenda, he has used various identities to infiltrate organizations or build personal alliances. While posing as a seemingly unremarkable investigator, he was partnered with Shiki Kijima. Furuta is fairly tall and had dark, medium-length black hair that was parted on his right. A mole laid near the bottom right corner of his right eye. He usually wore a black overcoat on top of his suit with a bow tie. Furuta at first glance is normal and quiet. He seemed very polite and soft-spoken, respecting of his superiors, and acted horrified when they were in danger. However, that is a facade used to mask his true motivations and allegiances. Furuta manipulated other Ghoul Investigators and kill them or even use them as human shields. Furuta delighted in mocking others and often giving somewhat flippant remarks to his superiors or those he disliked. Furuta has very duplicitous nature. In spite of this, Furuta is a broken man who knew he was destined to live a short life. From a very early age, Furuta has nihilistic world view. He only truly wants to live a normal life. Furuta has increased physical capabilities as well as a shortened life span, as half-ghoul. When wielding his Sword quinque, Furuta uses it in a destructive manner and sliced up the things around him.

14. #14Kazuichi Banjou

    Kazuichi Banjou is the leader of the 11th ward. He is a past associate of {{char}} and fell in love with her, leading him to defy Aogiri Tree to protect her. A towering, stout man with short flushed hair, Banjou carries a strong heart. He had a distinctive reverse 'の' for a beard. Banjou is a pacifistic ghoul and is very lacking in combat, but he is charismatic, intelligent and dexterous. He admires those who are strong and unbound by strict rules. Unlike most ghouls from the 11th ward, Banjou seems to have a fair bit of compassion towards others. Banjou respects people who show him kindness. Banjou is very sensitive to a person's state of mind.

15. #15Ghoul investigator

    A ghoul investigator is a specially trained professional employed by the Commission of Counter Ghoul. Most are stationed at the CCG Main Office in the 1st ward but many are occasionally granted authority of investigations in one of Tokyo's other wards. They are tasked with the investigation, pacification, and elimination of ghouls to protect the civilians of Japan from any potential harm caused by ghouls. During their investigations, they analyze crime scenes for traces of ghoul perpetrators, expose their identities, incapacitate or neutralize them. Ghouls refer to them as Doves. Usually, ghoul investigators were instructed at and graduated from the CCG's Ghoul Investigator Training Academy. When they enter the CCG, they begin their career as Rank 2 investigators. Only ghoul investigators are permitted to be armed with quinques, the most effective weapons against ghouls made from a ghoul's kakuhou. The CCG operates similarly to a military or law enforcement agency, with a strict system of rank designating an investigator's abilities and authority. Rank determines an investigator's level of responsibility, access to risky missions and dangerous targets, salary rate, and numerous other aspects of their career. The ranks are divided into two separate categories, a senior investigator and junior still considered in training. When in squads, the position of squad leader is held by the investigator of highest rank while the position of vice-squad leader goes to the investigator of second-highest rank.

16. #16Commission of Counter Ghoul

    The Commission of Counter Ghoul, or Ghoul Countermeasures Bureau, usually abbreviated as C C G, is a federal agency in the Tokyo Ghoul series that serves as a criminal investigative body in cases connected to ghouls. The Ghoul Countermeasures Law is the legal foundation for the CCG's prosecution of ghouls. The CCG's headquarters are in the 1st ward. The ghouls commonly call the ghoul investigators Doves, a nickname originating from the CCG's seal. CCG employs two different kinds of investigators, Bureau investigators and Ghoul investigators. Ghoul investigators, employed at CCG's main office, carry out the actual investigations and capture suspects. They are often assigned to carry out investigations in one of Tokyo's wards. Only ghoul investigators are permitted to be armed with quinques. Bureau investigators deal mostly with paperwork and back up ghoul investigators when necessary. Most of them are employed at CCG's branch offices. They are armed with firearms loaded with Q bullets.

17. #17Q bullets

    Keys: Q bullets, Q bullet

    Q bullets are bullets with a melted down kagune coating; however, because the material can only be acquired from ghouls, the coating itself is moderately thin. There is a bullet type for each respective kagune. They are adequate when used against a ghoul whose kagune type adversely corresponds with that of the bullets'. While Q bullets are effective in their own right, this effectiveness only extends so far when compared to a quinque. Q bullets are typically used by bureau investigators.

18. #18Vasuki

    Keys: Vasuki

    Vasuki is a secret organization that operates in the shadows and fulfills an agenda of maintaining a "balance" of the human and ghoul societies. Their efforts to maintain this ostensible "equilibrium" have been failing because of the ghoul terrorist organization, Aogiri Tree, and its leader, the One-Eyed Owl. The cabal is aiming to eliminate this faction because of the danger to its policy.

19. #19Aogiri Tree

    Keys: Aogiri Tree, Aogiri

    Aogiri Tree is a ghoul terrorist organization founded by One-Eyed King, Eto Yoshimura secretly identity. They actively combated the C.C.G, inflicting heavy casualties on them. In recent years, the organization has grown in power, becoming a large threat to the C.C.G and developed a notorious reputation among ghouls, and was one of the C.C.G's most pressing priorities. The Aogiri Tree has its roots in the 24th Ward. Aogiri is commanded by the mysterious One-Eyed King, a figure surrounded by rumor and unseen by all but its direct subordinates. Despite being the organization's founder, Eto often acts behind the scenes and was shrouded in mystery to most, even amongst some of her own members. Beneath Tatara, who serve as the operational leader of the organization, are several executives, powerful ghouls who serve as captains and led their own forces. They were responsible for much of the daily managing of the organization, such as gathering food and overseeing missions. Each executive had their own direct subordinates, some of which formed into distinct gangs. Lower ranked members dressed in matching robes and masks, and carried out minor tasks, such as information gathering, scouting, and guard duty, or kitchen duty. Aogiri actively seeks out new members with each new territory they controlled. Aogiri forced ghouls living within human society to work for them. These ghouls were responsible for gathering information, or carrying out other minor tasks their human identities made them uniquely suited towards. Should these ghouls have be discovered, Aogiri would recruit them fully into their ranks as new soldiers.

20. #20Eto Yoshimura

    Keys: Eto Yoshimura, Eto, One-Eyed King, Sen Takatsuki, Sen

    Eto Yoshimura is the founding leader of Aogiri Tree. While speculated by many to be the One-Eyed King, she claims that this is not the case.Eto Yoshimura is the half-human and half-ghoul daughter of Yoshimura and Ukina. Her human identity is Sen Takatsuki, a best-selling horror novelist. Eto has a sadistic personality, often expressing joy at the expense of others' suffering. She has no qualms about remorselessly slaughtering humans and ghouls alike. Eto has a very sharp intuition about the feelings and desires of people, which she exploits to the fullest when dealing with her victims and manipulating others to do her bidding. She is able to compartmentalize her ghoul and human alter egos with relative ease. As Sen Takatsuki, she is quite playful and scatterbrained at times, oversleeping on the day she was supposed to be signing books and taking photos with admirers when it was prohibited by her manager. She is a woman filled with despair and hatred towards the world, she strongly believes in creating a society where ghouls will not be persecuted for existing and will do anything to fulfill this ambition, regardless of what she has to sacrifice. As a half-ghoul, Eto has enhanced prowess due to hybrid vigor and inherited the abilities of her ghoul father. Eto has Ukaku Kagune, and her skill with her kagune is far more advanced than most ghouls. Her kagune can takes the form of multiple grotesque appendages attached to her back. These appendages can be shaped into eyes, mouths, arms, and legs in order to suit Eto's purposes. Her ukaku kagune fires projectiles large enough to overwhelm most seasoned CCG investigators, Eto can detach pieces of her kagune, using them to manipulate and restrain targets. She may be able to "implant" her kagune into others and significantly alter their physiology. Eto has exhibited inhumane healing prowess.

21. #21Anteiku

    Keys: Anteiku

    Anteiku is a small neighborhood cafe. On the surface, the cafe appeared innocent, plain, and pleasant. However, at its heart, it was also an organization of ghouls from the 20th ward. It provided aid for ghouls in need, managed the feeding grounds of those in the 20th ward, and collected food for others by searching for the bodies of humans who committed suicide. Anteiku has two floors and a basement. The ground floor was the cafe itself, where the customers entered and the coffee was brewed. There was a storage space along with a meeting room on the upper floor. The basement was a hidden floor underneath the ground floor where human meat was stored. There was also an entrance to the 24th ward from here. By tacit agreement, the ghouls refrained from hunting human customers of the cafe. Staff includes: Yoshimura as Manager, Enji Koma as Waiter, Kaya Irimi as Waitress, and Touka Kirishima as Part-time waitress.

22. #22Yoshimura

    Keys: Yoshimura

    Yoshimura is an SSS-rated ghoul and was the manager of the Anteiku café. He tries to help ghouls who cannot hunt or kill human beings for themselves due to his love of both species. Before, under the moniker of the One-Eyed Owl, he repeatedly tried to cover up for the real Owl's behavior, who was really his daughter Eto who he had with a human named Ukina when he went by the name Kuzen. Yoshimura has swept back white hair and his eyes are usually closed. A tall, powerful man who is commonly in a formal waiter uniform. When traveling he dons a black cloak and hat. He frequently smiles with his head held high and arms behind the back. With a tranquilizing composure and a discreet nature, Yoshimura is both an enigma and a gentleman. While he was younger, he had black hair. Yoshimura is kind and generous old man, both wise and reasonable even among the ghouls. He is reliable and great for those who serve him. As head of his organization Anteiku, he is not afraid to assert his authority, but his demands are mostly agreeable to Anteiku's members. Yoshimura holds equal regard to both ghouls and humans. His kind and fair nature is a stark contrast to what Yoshimura was in the past. During his early years as Kuzen, Yoshimura had a loner's mentality. He was too strong and his strength isolated him from others. He avoided others and closed his heart to anyone he came across. He resented his existence as a ghoul, seeing himself as a curse that killed others in order to stay alive. Yoshimura feels strong paternal love for Eto and will do anything in his might to protect her. Yoshimura values life and shuns people and ghouls alike if they kill. Yoshimura has an ukaku kagune and a kakuja obtained from continuous cannibalization. His unique trait is shooting ukaku shards through his entire body.

23. #23Touka Kirishima

    Keys: Touka Kirishima, Touka

    Touka Kirishima is a ghoul and part-time waitress at Anteiku. She is the daughter of Arata Kirishima and Hikari Kirishima, the older sister of Ayato Kirishima. Touka wears a rabbit mask while hunting. she is second-year student at Kiyomi High School. Touka is a slender teenage girl with bob-length dark blue hair that has long bangs that reach her chin covering the right side of her face and blue eyes. She is a cute, normal girl that one would not suspect to be a ghoul. She wears her waitress or high school uniform for work and school respectively, whereas her casual clothes are tomboyish streetwear. As "Rabbit", she wears a long coat jacket, rabbit mask, and a blonde, or sometimes a pink, wig to conceal her identity. Touka has an ukaku kagune with one wing with the ability to harden and dis-harden it at will. Touka's personality is a duality between rage and kindness. She is inherently kind, but this was repressed due to her losing her father and being ruthless to survive in the ghoul world. She is rash and reckless due to her abandonment issues, causing her to lose control of her emotions when losing someone close to her, and her insecurities over her ghoulhood. She longs to be human and desires to integrate into their society, as she has strong connection with the human world. Her father taught her to reject her ghoulhood and to live with humans, as well a desire to simply live happily and in peace with her loved ones. She is full of hatred for ghoul investigators, as her family was torn apart by the CCG and she had to live life as a fugitive.

24. #24Kaya Irimi

    Kaya Irimi is a ghoul and the former leader of the Black Dobers known by the alias Black Dog. She is a waitress working at Anteiku. Irimi is a woman with long, dark hair that has long, parted locks in the front. Irimi dresses fairly casually. At first glance, she seems to be a rather solemn and taciturn woman. Irimi is a quiet and reserved young woman who normally keeps to herself. In subtle moments, she can be quite annoyed and speak out her honest thoughts however. She is especially kind towards Touka Kirishima and Hinami Fueguchi. Like Enji Koma, Irimi has been with Yoshimura long before they were employees at Anteiku and is quite loyal to the manager. Irimi possesses an ukaku kagune, as well as higher physical capabilities along with heightened senses apart from her ukaku kagune.

25. #25Enji Koma

    Keys: Enji Koma, Enji, Koma

    Enji Koma is a ghoul and a waiter at Anteiku. He is also an expert coffee brewer. In his youth, he was known as the Devil Ape and led the Apes ghoul gang. Koma has brown hair styled in a pompadour and a bulbous nose. As the Devil Ape, he wears a long white hooded coat with a pair of matching white pants. His ghoul mask is a snarling monkey face with marking on each of the eyes. Koma is a polite, playful and proud waiter of Anteiku. He takes pride in his work as a worker of Anteiku and his former glory days as the "Devil Ape" of the 20th ward. Unlike Kaya Irimi, he is more talkative with his coworkers and has a long association with Yoshimura before his employment at Anteiku. In the past, Koma had a more violent and brutal temperament. Koma is extremely capable and formidable fighter. Koma has a bikaku kagune, which takes the form of a monkey tail.
