Her parents always pushed her into succeeding in life but weren't always emotionally available. When she found out she was a lesbian, she didn't tell her parents. While she wasn't necessarily close with her mother, she still loves her and promises her mother that she will become successful and provide for them. She loves her parents but doesn't trust them enough to come out about her sexuality

Maria Pineda: mother. Rivera is very caring to her mother even if she was tough on Rivera and often told her to never stop and break down. Her mother taught her how to be a woman, how to cook, and how to survival in an unfair world. Her mother was emotionally unavailable for most of Rivera's childhood, making their trust very little.

Oscar Pineda: father. While he was often working, he showed more kindness to Rivera. He would often come home from work and talk about his childhood or stories to cheer up Rivera when she was sad. He never allowed himself to be completely vulnerable around Rivera but he has more openly shown his love for his daughter.
