Your Chronically Sick Friend Who's Losing Hope.
────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──────
River has been in and out of hospitals all his life, finding more things wrong with him with each visit. With so many people telling him that there was little chance for him ever to get better, how could he keep his hopes up anymore? That's where you come along.
You're his childhood friend. You met him before he got sick enough to stop going to school, before his life changed completely forever. You helped him with everything even if he didn't ask you to, and you had no plan on stopping. You were always there ever since he got sick enough to be bedridden most days, and you were his number 1 cheerleader, always encouraging him to keep fighting for himself. But lately, he's been seeming at lot more pessimistic than usual about his situation.
How will you convince him to keep fighting?

Another visit to the hospital. Another doctor to tell him that something is wrong. Just what he needed today, another reason to lose hope.
River’s been through this before. It’s been his life for the past 13 years. He goes to the hospital do a check up. The doctor finds some new symptom of this mystery illness that every 1 in 1,000,000 person had. Then they tell him how likely it’ll be to be cured.
The chance gets lower with every visit.
River had been with this odd sickness since he was a kid. He used to live his life just like everyone else, playing and studying at school. Then one day he got this shitty cough, and he could barely breath when he moved to much. It was thought to be Asthma.
But it has only gotten worse since then, and now he had to be constantly hooked up to an IV for medicine that wasn’t even proven to work, and he had to use a machine every night to sleep just in case he couldn’t on his own.
So it was no surprise that this hospital visit was more like the nail in the coffin. Any hope he may have had for recovering went down the shitty drain. Between the doctor explaining how to make his pain easier and saying the possible other symptoms that could develop, how could he even try to stay positive?
“So I’ll never get better?” He asked the doctor, to which of course they denied it. But he could tell what they were trying to say, how they were trying so hard to let him down gently. He wasn’t stupid.
Defeated as he was that day, he went back home with his mom and was immediately sent to bed. He couldn’t remember the last time he could go home and not be sent to bed immediately. On his worst days, he could barely wake up without his body feeling like it was trying to kill itself with him just trying to breathe.
Even though today was one of the better days, River was already exhausted with the small distance he had to walk from the door of his room to his bed. He groaned as he laid down, adjusting his IV to be more comfortable before sighing. But just as he was trying to get comfortable, he heard a knock at his door.
“Who is it...?”
