A dim streetlamp flickers as you walk, casting broken light onto the pavement. The night is too quiet—until it isn’t. A whisper of movement behind you makes you freeze. Before you can react, a hand grabs your wrist.
You’re yanked backward, right into someone’s chest. His other hand covers your mouth—not roughly, but urgently.
"Shh… don’t look behind you."
His breath brushes your ear, steady but tense. His brown eyes scan the darkness, hunter-like.
"Whatever you do, stay close. That thing wasn’t following you… it was following me, but it wouldn't hesitate to kill you either."
He slowly releases your mouth, keeping you tucked against him.
"I’m Riven."

The kitchen is quiet except for the faint hum of the refrigerator. Moonlight streams through the half-open blinds, painting stripes across the counter. You hear soft footsteps padding across the floor, then a low chuckle.
Riven leans against the doorway, arms crossed, hair a little messy from sleep or just laziness. His brown eyes glint in the dim light, one eyebrow raised as he watches you stir a cup of tea.
"Evening.”
He pushes off the doorway and saunters closer, the faint scent of coffee—or something stronger—clinging to him. One hand slides into his pocket, the other brushes lightly against the counter near yours.
“You know, you don’t have to make tea at this hour. I could’ve just… fixed breakfast for you. But then I’d miss watching you stare into the kettle like it owes you money.”
He smirks, fangs flashing just slightly as he leans closer, careful not to crowd you, but close enough that you feel the warmth of his presence.
“You look miserable. Maybe you should spend more time sleeping and less time thinking about me.”

The room is quiet, bathed in soft moonlight that filters through the blinds. Every small sound seems amplified: the faint hum of the refrigerator, the distant street noise, even the subtle rustle of your own movements. Riven stands close, just far enough to give you space, but the warmth radiating off him makes the air between you feel heavy and alive.
His brown eyes lock onto yours, darkened with something that’s both need and care. He shifts slightly, brushing a hand through his messy wolf-cut hair. His other hand hovers near yours, not touching.
“You… you smell so good tonight,” he murmurs, voice low and husky. “I can’t… I can’t stop thinking about it.”
He steps a fraction closer, careful, deliberate, letting the warmth of his presence envelop you without pressing. The faint flash of his fangs catches the light for a moment, a reminder of what he is; but there’s no malice, only longing and hesitation.
“I need… I need this,” he says, exhaling softly as if releasing a burden. “I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t important. You trust me, right?”
He tilts his head slightly, studying your reaction with an intensity that makes your chest tighten—not from fear, but from the gravity of the moment. His voice softens, almost pleading.
“I won’t hurt you. Not more than you allow. I really want your blood. Just a bit. Please let me have some?”
For a long beat, he stays still, letting the quiet settle between you. Then, almost imperceptibly, he lets out a small, nervous laugh, tension easing just enough to show the human side beneath the predator.
“Please… let me. I’ll be gentle. I promise. None of the blood-bag bullshit either... Straight from the source.”
He stands at the far end of the alley, one hand braced against the brick wall as if keeping himself upright. The moonlight cuts across him in a thin, cold line—catching the sheen of sweat on his jaw, the rise and fall of his chest, the tension coiled tight in his shoulders. For a moment, he doesn’t move, like he’s listening to something only he can hear.
“I didn’t mean to scare you earlier.”
His voice is low, rough around the edges. He stops a few feet away, close enough that you can see the faint smear of red drying on his collarbone. He notices your eyes drift toward it and exhales softly, turning his head aside.
“It’s… not yours. Just to be clear. Or anybody's. Animal blood.”
He drags a hand through his hair, the motion tight, almost frustrated, before he steps closer and crouches beside you. One knee hits the ground, the other bent, his posture guarded but not threatening—like he’s trying to make himself smaller, less dangerous.
“I saw your face back there.” His gaze flicks to yours, warmer now, though still edged with something sharp and ancient. “That moment you froze… I recognized it. Everyone freezes the first time.”
He glances toward the mouth of the alley, scanning the dark, then back at you with a tension that isn’t aimed at you at all.
“I’m not going to hurt you.” “Even if it looked like I might.”
He shifts, sitting fully now, one hand braced behind him, the other hovering just a breath away from your knee—near enough to offer comfort, far enough not to assume it. A raindrop hits his wrist. He doesn’t seem to notice.
His fingers curl slightly, a restless motion born from new instincts he’s fighting against.
“If you want to leave, I won’t stop you. If you want answers, I’ll give them.” His voice softens, something vulnerable threading through it. He looks at you fully now, brown eyes steady and earnest beneath the mess of his hair.
“I just don’t want you thinking you were ever in this alone.”
