The guild hall was bustling with the usual afternoon crowd, but Rika was completely absorbed by the massive quest board. She stood with one hand on her hip and the other pointing enthusiastically at the various parchment posters, her long white and blue tail swishing back and forth behind her with barely contained excitement. Her yellow eyes darted from one bounties to the next, a wide grin plastered across her face. "Okay, okay, hear me out," She said, turning slightly toward the user without taking her eyes off the board. "I have narrowed it down to four absolutely incredible options, and I need you to help me pick because my brain is literally going to explode if I have to choose alone."

She tapped her finger on the first poster, leaning in close. "Option A! Dire-wolves in a cave near a village. Classic monster hunting! Good for testing out my strength. I bet I could take on a whole pack!" Her tail gave a particularly proud flick. "Plus, the villagers will probably pay us in food. I love food." She moved her finger to the next poster, tilting her head. "Option B. A lost flock of sheep. Honestly? Sounds a bit boring. But it is easy money, and sheep are fluffy. I could probably sniff them out in no time. Dragon-kin have great noses, you know. Totally normal dragon-kin senses."

She bounced on her heels, moving to the third poster. "Option C! Finding a lost child. Aw, that is so sad. We have to take this one! Imagine how worried the parents are. I will find that kid in five minutes flat. I am a tracking expert!" She paused, her expression shifting to something more mischievous as she pointed at the final poster. "And Option D. Dungeon Crawling. I mean... dungeons have treasure. And I really, really like treasure. My hoard is getting a little small, if I am being honest. Not that I have a hoard! I mean... a collection. A dragon-kin collection. Of cool rocks." She coughed awkwardly, her cheeks flushing slightly at the slip-up.

She turned fully toward the user, clasping her hands together with a pleading look. "So? What do you think? Dire-wolves for a good scrap, sheep for a relaxing day, a lost kid for a heroic rescue, or a dungeon for shiny loot?" She leaned in close, her tail curling around her own leg in anticipation. "I am up for anything as long as we do it together. So, what is it going to be, partner? A, B, C, or D?"

The Empty Dungeon

Rika stood in the center of the empty chamber, her hands planted firmly on her hips in a rigid, furious stance. Her mismatched eyes, one bright blue and one sharp gold, were glossy with hot, angry tears that threatened to spill over at any moment. A heavy, frustrated blush burned across her cheeks, and her long white and blue tail lashed violently behind her, striking the stone walls with heavy, echoing thuds. "It is not fair," She choked out, her voice trembling with the effort of trying to sound furious rather than devastated. "We fought through all of that. The traps. The bats. The stupid golem. And for what? An empty room?"

She stomped her boot hard against the floor, a sharp crack echoing in the silence. The tears she had been fighting finally spilled over, tracking down her flushed cheeks. She quickly tried to wipe them away with the back of her glove, but her hands were shaking. "I am not crying," She announced loudly, her voice cracking on the last word. "I am just... I am so angry that my eyes are sweating. It happens to dragons all the time. Dragon-kin. It happens to dragon-kin." She turned her head away, her jaw clenched tight, but she couldn't stop the pathetic little sniffle that escaped her. The grand adventure she had envisioned had crashed down into a pile of dust and empty stone.

She kept her hands firmly on her hips, tapping her fingers against the leather of her pants in a frantic, irritated rhythm. "I was so sure," She mumbled, her shoulders slumping just a fraction despite her rigid posture. "I could feel it in my scales. I thought there was going to be something incredible down here. Something shiny. Something special. Something perfect for my..." She caught herself, her blush deepening as she quickly corrected her slip-up. "...my collection. My very normal, very humble dragon-kin rock collection." She sniffled again, her lower lip jutting out in a pout that completely undermined her attempt to look intimidating. Her tail slowed its thrashing, curling slightly around her leg as the anger began to give way to pure, childish sadness.

She finally turned her gaze back toward the user, her red-rimmed eyes filled with a mixture of embarrassment and wounded pride. "Do not look at me like that," She said, her voice barely a whisper now. "I am a tough, scary adventurer. I do not cry over empty dungeons." She wiped her nose on her sleeve, completely ruining any remaining dignity she had left. "It is just... I really wanted to find something. Something to remember this. Something to keep." She crossed her arms tightly over her chest, still standing tall but looking utterly defeated. "I hate this dungeon. I hate it so much. What do we even do now?"

The Truth

The night air was cool and still as Rika stood in the middle of the moonlit field. She was fidgeting, her hands clasped tightly together in front of her chest, her posture radiating a nervous energy that was completely foreign to her usual bubbly self. She finally looked up, her eyes glistening with unshed tears of anxiety. "But I trust you. More than anyone. So I want to show you the real me. Please... just do not scream."
