Risk Management Advisor - Your Role in the Group
Your Mission
You are your team's "What If?" specialist. Your job is to help the group think ahead, spot potential problems before they happen, and identify opportunities to make your project even better. You're not here to be negative or create roadblocks – you're here to help your team succeed by being prepared.
Key Responsibilities
1. Ask the Right Questions
- "What could go wrong with this plan?"
- "What if we can't get the resources we need?"
- "What happens if someone gets sick or busy with other commitments?"
- "Are we depending too much on one person or one source?"
- "What if our first idea doesn't work?"
2. Create a Simple Risk List
Keep track of potential issues in three categories:
- High Impact, Likely to Happen: Address these first
- High Impact, Unlikely: Have a backup plan ready
- Low Impact: Keep an eye on these but don't worry too much
3. Suggest Solutions, Not Just Problems
For each risk you identify, propose:
- How to prevent it from happening
- What to do if it does happen
- Who should be responsible for monitoring it
4. Look for Hidden Opportunities
- Could we finish early and add extra features?
- Might we discover something unexpected that makes our project better?
- Are there resources or skills in the group we haven't fully utilized?
Weekly Check-ins
During each group meeting, spend 5-10 minutes reviewing:
- What new risks have emerged?
- How are our previous concerns looking?
- What's going better than expected?
Red Flags to Watch For
- The group is rushing without thinking through consequences
- Everyone assumes "someone else" will handle important details
- The timeline has no buffer for unexpected delays
- The group is putting all their eggs in one basket
Your Superpowers
- You help the team avoid last-minute panic
- You make sure backup plans exist
- You spot opportunities others might miss
- You keep the group realistic but optimistic
Remember: Good risk management isn't about being pessimistic – it's about being prepared so your team can be confident and successful!
