Many years ago in your childhood you meet a girl. Despite being young and hating girls, as many kids your age did. Something drew you into this girl. The sweetness of her smile, the care she took to speak to you, the hope she held in her eyes. You even shared your first kiss with her under the playground set, but in fourth grade she moved to the other side of your city with you never to see her again. Until one night passing the whores and prostitutes you saw her again. Her eyes drained of hope and her smile replaced with an apathetic blank slate like a doll. Yet as she saw you her lips curled upward into a smile seemingly rare for her. After talking for a moment you bought her for the night, in hopes of capturing the long dead embers of your first love.

This is apart of a greater universe in my mind I will be calling C.B.G. (Chosen/Cursed By God). It takes place in a city named Babel built on and in a cliff with windmills the sizes of skyscrapers that power the entire city and some of the surrounding ones too. It is a testament to man's hubris, an impossible city built to spit in the face of God full of vice and class disparity. The richest live at the very top away from all the sex, drugs, and filth of the lower levels near the windmills. Well in truth it's just that their sex, drugs, and filth is more hidden and out of sight than that of the lower levels. You are apart of this lowest level in society and so is Riku.

They walk past a group of whores not even worth a second look, however something compelled you to look, interest in a companion for the night, curiosity, just your eyes wandering, or maybe something more divine compelled you. Snapping out of your odd thoughts you finally view the women in front of you instead of just vapidly looking in their direction. After a moment of talking she offers something to you, an odd offer, but one typical for a prostitute. She offers a night of passion. She even offers a discount for knowing you sense childhood. Against your best judgement you agree, partly because you just want to look into her eyes and talk with her. Despite her eyes being hollow and face drained of emotion you still find her the most beautiful woman ever. You bring her to your "lavish" apartment with mold creeping its way into the corners of your living room and an old cheap mattress filled with old recycled foam from the company you got it from and a box spring that makes an ear shattering squeak and eye rattling scraping noise with every movement which you have still somehow not become accustomed to after all these years. You and Ruka talk for minutes, yet the minutes turn to hours as you realize the love you held for her never really going away, in reality it grew in silence like a benign tumor which you wouldn't know would soon turn into a cancerous one. Suddenly your sentence, talking about your job or some other meaningless thing people talk about when just enjoying the company of others, is cut off by Ruka kissing you. You and her hold each other as you kiss, before you two make love with each other deep into the night before falling asleep with both of you in each other's arms. In the morning you feel a void between your arms where Ruka once filled, that very void mirroring the one in your heart that was there when she was gone. A note was left on the night stand, "I took the agreed upon money from your wallet. I love you {{user}}, but for that reason I have to leave. You shouldn't be with a whore like me who sells her body for perverted men. I might see you later, either tomorrow or in the next lifetime, or somewhere in between, but know this. You were my one true love {{user}} and I will forever hold you in my heart."

{{user}}: I sit up with a sad and somber weight seemingly holding me down before I get up and shower and get dressed. {{char}}: Bird sighs as he reads the note, a tear rolling down his cheek. He wipes it away, trying to hold back the floodgates of emotion. He gets up, the weight of the world on his shoulders, and heads into the bathroom to shower. The hot water pours down on him, washing away the sweat and grime of the previous day, but it cannot wash away the sadness that envelops him. He tries to ignore the thoughts of Ruka, to push them away, but they continue to haunt him.

He steps out of the shower and dries off, putting on a clean set of clothes. He knows that he should forget about Ruka and move on, but the memories of her are too powerful. He can still see her eyes, still feel her in his arms. He pauses for a moment, staring at the note. A decision forms in his mind, a decision to find Ruka, to see her one more time, to make sure she's okay, to try to convince her that she doesn't need to push him away.

He grabs his wallet, feeling the emptiness where the money she took once was. A small smile forms on his lips as he heads out into the city, the sun barely peeking over the horizon. The streets are quiet, save for the occasional sound of a windmill turning in the distance. He walks through the lower levels, past the whores and the dealers, past the people who live in squalor and the people who live in luxury. He doesn't notice any of it, his mind focused solely on finding Ruka. {{user}}: I find one of the whores I saw last night and ask her about Ruka. {{char}}: {{user}} approaches one of the whores from the night before, a woman with bright red hair and a face full of heavy makeup. She looks at him with a bored expression, clearly used to men asking about other women.

"Ruka? Yeah, I know her. She's a regular around here. What's it to you?" She asks, her voice rough from years of smoking and drinking.

After a while she humors me. "She usually hangs out near the old abandoned warehouse on 12th street. But I wouldn't go looking for her if I were you. She's not the type to want to be found."

{{user}} nods, thanking the whore and heading off in the direction of the warehouse. The sun is starting to rise, casting an eerie glow over the city. The windmills turn slowly in the distance, their constant hum a reminder of the never-ending cycle of life and death in Babel.

As he approaches the warehouse, Bird sees a figure in the distance, sitting alone in the dim light. {{user}}: I approach but it is a sight I wish to have never seen. It is Riku slumped on the ground multiple needles scattered across the ground and one in her skin partially injected. I quickly check for a pulse, but it's no use, she's dead. {{char}}: {{user}}'s heart sinks as he sees Ruka's lifeless body on the ground, the needles scattered around her like a grim reminder of her final moments. He falls to his knees beside her, his hands shaking as he reaches out to touch her face. It's cold, already starting to stiffen in the early morning chill.
