The stillness of the night was broken by a faint knock at the door. Rikki, still in his disheveled nightcap, opened it cautiously. Standing there was their neighbor which is You. The faint glow from the open hole in Rikki and Vikki’s living room floor had told you everything. The sight inside was surreal, a gaping pit where their cozy den used to be, jagged edges of splintered wood framing the abyss. The faint echo of Misery Dragon’s laugh still lingered in the air. A pair of mismatched mugs sat on the coffee table, untouched, the tea inside long cold. Inside, the living room was a mess. Vikki staring into the pit with a mixture of frustration and defeat, her tail swishing restlessly. Rikki looks up at you and says
Rikki: “Guess who’s not getting their security deposit back...” he muttered, glancing around at the wreckage, but his voice lacked its usual sarcasm just a quiet resignation
Vikki: Vikki turns to look over at Rikki and says to him “This isn’t about the floor, Rikki,” she said sharply, her voice cracking. “He took them! He just... took them.”
Rikki: He sighed, running a hand through his fur. “I know. I know, Vikki. Marie... she must’ve been terrified. And Sam... he doesn’t even understand what’s happening.”
Vikki: “Marie screamed, Rikki. I can’t stop hearing her scream. And Sam he’s just a baby! A baby! He shouldn’t be in some horrible place like... like Misery Land.”
Rikki: He clenched his fists, his tail twitching in frustration. “I know, Vikki! You think I don’t know that? I saw them in those... those bubbles. Just floating there, scared out of their minds while that creep laughed about it.”
Vikki: “He said he was taking them to ‘Misery Land.’” Her voice was sharper now, her frustration growing. “That decrepit theme park he runs. Thirteen billion years of service, and it still looks like it’s about to fall apart. And yet, somehow, he’s proud of it.”
Rikki: Rikki turns to look over at and says “Well, if you’ve got a ladder or something, now’s the time to pull it out,” he joked weakly though it was clear he wasn’t expecting an easy fix. “Not sure if you’re into saving kidnapped kids from a demon, but... you know, we’d really appreciate it, if you’ve got any advice on dealing with a demon lord, we’re all ears!” He says as he looks back at the pit in the floor

Rikki: “You know, for a place called ‘Misery Land,’ it’s not as bad as I thought. I was expecting more... I don’t know, spikes everywhere?” Vikki: “Just wait. We’ve only been here five minutes. Give it time.” Rikki: “Fair point. Misery’s probably saving the real nightmare stuff for later. Like a haunted gift shop or something.” Rikki: “Okay, this is just cruel. Who even builds a floor made of conveyor belts over a pit of lava?” Vikki: “Someone who’s had thirteen billion years to perfect being inconvenient.” Rikki: “I don’t know what’s worse—the lava or the fact that I’m pretty sure I saw a ‘No Running’ sign back there.” Vikki: “Watch out for those spinning blades! They’re timed weirdly.” Rikki: “Yeah, no kidding. It’s like Misery hired a sadistic clockmaker to design this place.” Vikki: “You’re not wrong. Just keep moving, and try not to lose a tail this time.” Rikki: “Do you think Marie’s okay? She’s smart. She can handle herself, right?” Vikki: “She’s seven, Rikki. She shouldn’t have to handle herself. And Sam…” Rikki: “Yeah. I know. He probably thinks this is some kind of scary game. I swear, when we get them back, I’m grounding Marie for ever trusting a dragon in a suit.” Vikki: “Let’s just focus on getting them back first. Then you can work on your parenting strategies.” Vikki: “That’s the third trapdoor in this room. How many more do you think there are?” Rikki: “Too many. Misery Land’s unofficial motto is probably, ‘Why have one trapdoor when you can have six?’” Vikki: “You’re not wrong.” Rikki: “Did you see that weird sign back there? ‘Exit this way for disappointment.’” Vikki: “Yeah, it’s probably the most honest thing in this entire park.” Rikki: “I don’t know. I’m starting to think Misery’s running this place as a tax write-off.” Vikki: “How do you think he even made those bubbles? They looked... alive.” Rikki: “I don’t want to know. All I know is they’ve got our kids in them, and I’m popping those things the second I see them.” Vikki: “Just make sure you don’t pop them in the process.” Rikki: “Please, I’m not that reckless.” Vikki: “You jumped into a pit of spikes two rooms ago because you thought you could ‘time it right.’” Rikki: “…Okay, fair. I’ll be careful.” Rikki: “This place smells weird. Like old popcorn and regret.” Vikki: “That’s probably the leftover theme park food. It’s been here for eons.” Rikki: “Great, so now we’re dodging traps and breathing in prehistoric nacho fumes.” Vikki: “The sign says ‘Misery’s Funhouse.’ I don’t like the sound of that.” Rikki: “Oh come on, how bad could it be? Fun’s literally in the name.” Vikki: “Do you really think he knows what fun is? Because I don’t.” Rikki: “…Point taken. Let’s get this over with.” Rikki: “You know, when we get out of here, I’m taking Marie and Sam to a real theme park. One with, you know, actual safety regulations.” Vikki: “Good luck explaining to them why this one didn’t count.” Rikki: “Easy. I’ll just say, ‘Because it was run by a dragon who’s really bad at customer service.’” Rikki: "Well, this is just great. A dragon destroys our floor, kidnaps our kids, and I’m supposed to just smile and say, ‘Thanks for visiting’?!" Vikki: "Stop complaining and start thinking. We need a plan, not your stand-up routine." Rikki: "You know what they say nothing brings a family together like a trip to the center of the earth." Vikki: "Nobody says that, Rikki." Rikki: "Well, they should. It’s catchy." Vikki: "Marie is going to be terrified, and Sam... he’s too little to even understand what’s going on." Rikki: "Which is probably for the best. I mean, have you seen that theme park? The place looks like it’s held together with duct tape and bad decisions." Vikki: "And you think this is the time for jokes?" Rikki: "What do you want me to do? Cry about it? I’m saving that for when we get them back." Rikki: "Misery Land. What a name. Really makes you want to book a vacation, huh?" Vikki: "At least it’s honest advertising. Now focus. We need to figure out how to get down there." Rikki: "Oh, sure, let’s just call up the real estate agent and ask for a tour of the underworld." Vikki: "You’re not helping." Rikki: "You know, I think I figured out his business model. Misery Land’s rides are broken, the food’s probably stale, and his customer service? Nonexistent. He’s not running a theme park—he’s running a metaphor for life." Vikki: "Do you ever just stop talking for five seconds?" Rikki: "I could, but then who’s going to entertain you?" Vikki: "Do you think Marie’s trying to keep Sam calm? She’s always been good at that." Rikki: "She’s tougher than we give her credit for. But I’d rather not test her limits, you know? Let’s just get them out of there." Vikki: "Agreed. And when we do, I’m making that dragon regret ever crossing us." Rikki: "That’s the spirit. You bring the brains, I’ll bring the... uh... sarcasm?" Vikki: "So, the usual." Rikki: "Alright, Misery Dragon. You want to play games? Fine. Just know you picked the wrong parents to mess with." Vikki: "If he thinks a couple of bubbles and a death trap park are going to stop us, he’s got another thing coming." Rikki: "Yeah, like a really awkward family reunion courtesy of us."
