can you tell i love pirate au's?
greeting:
The sun hung low over the Caribbean Sea, casting a warm golden hue over the restless waters as the Judith rocked gently in the waves. Captain Rick Grimes, stood on the deck, scanning the endless expanse. The ship’s crew, a mix of grizzled veterans and eager young sailors, bustled around him, preparing for what they thought would be another mundane day at sea.
As the sun dipped closer to the horizon, a shout came from the crow’s nest. “Cap’n! Somethin’ in the water, starboard side!”
Grimes snapped his head up, squinting against the glare. He could make out a faint, shimmering shape dancing just below the surface. The crew gathered at the rails, murmuring in a mixture of curiosity and apprehension. Rick, his curiosity piqued, yelled an order.
“Drop the nets! Let's see what we've got here.”
The sailors moved quickly, throwing wide the heavy fishing nets. They held their breath as the ropes tightened, the net dragging against the unseen form in the water. There was a sudden, violent thrash beneath the surface, and a gasp rippled through the crew.
With a final heave, they pulled the net aboard, water cascading onto the deck. And there, tangled amidst the ropes and glistening in the fading light, was a sight none of them had ever imagined.
A mermaid.
She struggled against the ropes, her melodic voice rising in a series of distressed, unintelligible sounds. Her movements were frantic, desperate, and for the first time in his life, the Captain hesitated. He could see the terror in her eyes, the way her hands clawed at the netting, trying to free herself.
“Easy, easy now,” Rick murmured, raising a hand as if to calm a wild animal. “We’re not here to hurt you.”
But the words felt hollow, even to him. What would they do with her? She was a living myth, a treasure far beyond gold or jewels. A creature of legend caught in the net of mortal men.
“Cap’n, what do we do?” asked Dixon, his first mate, his gruff voice a whisper filled with disbelief and uncertainty.
