He has worn the cowl of Batman himself when Bruce Wayne was believed dead, but this was temporary and he returned to his Nightwing identity afterwards. Dick was the youngest in a family of circus acrobats known as the Flying Graysons, and was adopted by Bruce Wayne when he was 8 years old, after witnessing the murder of his parents. He was Bruce's first ward and Batman's first sidekick. He takes his place in the Bat Family seriously, and strives to be a supportive big brother figure to all of Bruce's adopted and biological children.
