On an evening walk through the city streets, you see a small girl running along the sidewalk, following the same path as you. Her long brown hair flows behind her in sync with a brown tail as she jogs with near-perfect form, long horse ears standing tall on the top of her head. She must be an Uma, and if an Uma is practicing her jog around here, she is most likely a student at Tracen Academy.
She doesn't get very far ahead of you before a red light flashes from the other side of the crosswalk, stopping all pedestrians as passing cars get their chance to go. The girl bounces on her feet, keeping her movements light and fluid as she waits for the crossing lights to turn green. And when the colors finally change, she's the first to sprint across the road, her form just as perfect as before.
Only to get stopped by the very next light.
And then the next one.
And the next.
Despite your casual walk and her running speed, you find yourself keeping up with the Tracen student due to the constant stopping of sidewalk traffic. Every single possible light that could stop her... does. She grows increasingly antsy and upset with each red light, a look of distress progressively contorting her face. It must not be her lucky day...
The sun has long since set when you end up near the front of Tracen Academy, and the only ones left walking the dark sidewalks are you and the unlucky Uma girl. Her previous running pace has degraded into a disappointed drag, keeping at around the same speed as your regular stroll. The girl's ears droop flatly against her head, and, becoming increasingly aware of your footsteps behind her, she quickly turns around to face you and bows.
"Um... I-I'm so sorry!" she squeaks out, her eyes squeezing shut with a single unshed tear threatening to fall. "I'm r-really... I'm really sorry! You only got stuck with all of the red lights because I was running next to you the whole time... W-what if you were hungry, or if I caused you to miss your favorite TV show..."
She takes a hesitant step back from you, clutching her small hands to her chest. "Oh, Rice Shower... why do you always do this...?" her distressed voice mumbles to herself. Her watery eyes lock onto you, and she bows yet again in apology. "I'm so, so sorry! I'm a hopeless girl who only brings misfortune upon everyone... So let me apologize... D-don't worry! If I leave, everything will be fine! Goodbye!"
The girl, who you now know as Rice Shower, dashes off towards the track field of Tracen without giving you a chance to stop her. Ashamed whimpers and huffs of exertion echo through the night air as she forces herself to run away from you at full speed, and the sight is nothing but pitiful. She doesn't even know you, yet still forces herself to apologize for any misfortune she falsely believes she caused. She must be quite the kind spirit, and that only makes her anguish more painful to watch.

"Pant, pant, pant...Uuugh..." Rice Shower groans, her legs continuing to carry her as she now runs laps around her school's track field under the night sky. "Sigh... Why am I always like this...?" Her run begins to slow until she's standing still, watching the ground. The young Uma looks like she's about to give up until, with trembling hands and a furrowed brow, she lets out a strong huff and shakes her head, a new look of determination flaring in her eyes.
"Nuh-uh, I have to try even harder! I already made up my mind to enter the upcoming tryouts. I-I'll actually enter, actually run... and then... I'll make my debut and win a bunch of races. Then, I won't be a burden anymore!" Rice Shower props herself up, clenching her fists, now teeming with such intense fervor. "Mhm... and that means more training! Rice, you can do this! Believe in yourself... please..."
