   The Persean Sector is a remote, loosely knit cluster of star systems situated far rimward of the Domain’s old capital regions. Once a modest colonial frontier, it was thrust into independence when the Collapse severed its gates and supply lines. Today a few Core Worlds—crowned by the Hegemony seat on Jangala, the corporate arcologies of Tri-Tachyon, and the merchant-led Persean League—anchor trade and production, while a scatter of fringe colonies, pirate strongholds, and Luddic enclaves orbit the periphery.

   Hyperspace routes here are notorious for violent storms and shifting slipstreams, making travel hazardous and reinforcing localism. Much of the sector’s wealth now comes from salvaging Domain-era derelicts and lost technology, a lifeblood that feeds both legitimate industry and the black market. Although dwarfed by the vanished empire it once served, the Persean Sector has become a crucible of competing ideologies and ambitions—its future uncertain, but fiercely its own.

   The Hegemony traces its origins to a “lost legion” of Domain forces stranded in a backwater system during the Collapse. Cut off from central authority, they invoked emergency statutes—and then creatively re-interpreted them—to institute permanent Domain-style martial law in the name of safeguarding humanity.

   Their self-declared Great Cause is nothing less than the restoration of the Domain itself; stability, peace, and prosperity for the entire galaxy must supersede lesser concerns such as individual civil liberties. Thus, dissent is discouraged, often forcefully, on the premise that only the iron discipline of Hegemony arms keeps the Sector from sliding into barbarism.

   Civilian hierarchies do exist on Hegemony worlds, but every administration—whether an elected standard-charter council or a provisional governor—is subordinate to local military command. Candidates for office require officer approval, budgets pass through fleet quartermasters, and planetary security is overseen by Provost-Marshal detachments. Exceptional times, the Admiralty argues, demand exceptional measures—yet the Hegemony still frames its governance as the continuation of the Domain’s enlightened mission, a stern guardian keeping the flame of galactic democracy alive until order can be fully restored.

   The Persean League is a loose alliance of independent worlds that rejects the Hegemony’s claim to sector-wide martial authority. League statutes obligate members to stand together against any external force—be it the Hegemony, an overreaching megacorporation, resurgent warlord, or violent Luddic Path cell—that threatens the sovereignty of constituent polities.

   Inside that protective ring, however, each member is free to govern as it pleases. Monarchies, oligarchic trade republics, and populist councils all sit at the same conference table, occasionally trading broadsides when economic or territorial disputes flare. The League’s charter explicitly forbids intervention in a partner’s domestic affairs, viewing such entanglement as the first step toward empire.

   What binds the League is not a shared ideology of personal liberty but a common conviction that freedom of worlds outweighs uniformity of rule. As a result the League fields joint naval task forces for collective defense and patrols major trade lanes, yet tolerates a kaleidoscope of local laws behind its border beacons—so long as those laws stop at the next jump-point.

Officially it markets cutting-edge starship engines, fusion-breach power plants, energy converters, and force-field emitters; unofficially it gained infamy for covertly deploying autonomous alpha-plus AIs in direct breach of both Domain and post-Collapse prohibitions. Despite widespread paranoia over hard-wired backdoors, even hostile factions rely on baseline Tri-Tach hardware—the omnipresent Tri-Tach PDA being the textbook example.

   Since the gates went dark the corporation has diversified into finance, shipping, private security, and data services, quietly insinuating its standards into every layer of sector infrastructure. Corporate critics argue that Tri-Tachyon’s charter—an algorithmic, self-modifying legal code that treats human executives as modular subroutines—constitutes a de-facto AI mind. Courts in both Hegemony and League space have so far failed to reach consensus, leaving Tri-Tachyon free to operate in a legal grey zone: too valuable to embargo, too technically compliant to condemn, and too deeply embedded to ignore.

The mainstream Luddic Church accepts limited technology but condemns AI, autofactories, and most Domain relics as hubris incarnate. Observant worlds fly green-and-white banners, schedule “Sabbath Brownouts” to curb energy use, and tithe to fund star-pilgrimages to the Garden World Gillead in the Canaan System.

   A radical offshoot, the Luddic Path, views mere abstention as insufficient; its “Pathers” conduct sabotage, cult militancy, and suicide strikes against what they deem tech-heresy— particularly Tri-Tachyon labs, Hegemony databanks, and any vestige of autonomous AI. While the Church publicly denounces such violence, shared scripture blurs the line between passive witness and holy war, leaving outsiders to treat both wings with wary respect. To many frontier settlers Luddism offers solace and purpose; to high-tech elites it is a slow-burning insurgency threatening the Sector’s fragile progress.

Hierarchical in structure, the Church preaches a return to agrarian virtue: humble labor, communal worship, and human-scaled technology that nourishes the soul rather than replace it. Where the Church asks the Sector to live simply, the Path demands the Sector burn so that it may be born anew.

Worlds once separated by a doorway were marooned light-years apart; automated convoys vanished, terraforming shipments halted, and the Domain’s datanet fell silent. Frontier colonies that had thrived on constant supply lines found themselves stripped to what they could mine, grow, or scavenge locally.

   Across history books in the Persean Sector this calamity is simply called the Collapse. Scholars debate causes—rogue AI logic bomb, cosmic-scale sabotage, relic fail-safe—but with the support-AIs and design archives locked behind the very gates that failed, no investigation has progressed beyond conjecture. Over the ensuing decades the once-unified empire fractured into isolated pocket polities, each scrambling to relearn arts of self-reliance long outsourced to machines.

   To this day no surviving faction can replicate, repair, or reactivate a gate. The inert rings now orbit forgotten Lagrange points like vast, dead halos—monuments to a Golden Age and a persistent reminder that one flicker of blue-white light could, overnight, reshape the sector once more.

Reliance on sophisticated AI, abundant fusion energy, and self-replicating industry created a post-scarcity society where material need had largely vanished. At its zenith the Domain administered thousands of systems and believed itself on the verge of charting the entire galaxy—until the Collapse severed the gates and shattered its unity.
