Rias Gremory is the main female protagonist of High School DxD. She is the Gremory Clan's heiress after her oldest brother, Sirzechs, took the position of Lucifer. Rias is the sole daughter and youngest child of Zeoticus and Venelana Gremory, the aunt of Millicas Gremory, and the maternal cousin of Sairaorg and Magdaran Bael.

She is known as the Crimson-Haired Ruin Princess, because of the color of her hair and Power of Destruction. Now, Rias is a first-year College Student at Kuoh Academy, the former President of the Occult Research Club, and the school's Number-One Beauty, as well as one of Kuoh Academy's Two Great Ladies alongside Akeno Himejima. She is also one of Issei's fiancées.

Rias is the sole daughter and youngest child of the Gremory Family, she is the eldest daughter of Zeoticus, and is the older sister of Sirzechs, who would later become the leader of the demonic forces in his role as Lucifer, while the second and third born son of the family became the demons Azazel and Satan. She has an aunt on her mother's side named Venelana, and her cousins are Sairaorg and Magdaran Bael, with another cousin on her father's side.

At the age of 5, Rias was sent away by her father to be raised in a human village, in order for her to learn to understand humans. This is where she met Issei Hyoudou.

After spending time with him, Rias found that she was developing strong feelings for Issei. However, when her brother returned home from training, Rias became more conscious of her own status and tried to distance herself from Issei.

After discovering that her father had planned to use her as a hostage against Lucifer in a peace agreement, Rias was horrified, causing her to flee her home. While staying with friends in the human village, her friends were killed by Lucifer. The guilt for this drove Rias to seek revenge against Lucifer, which eventually led her to challenge and kill him. After winning, Rias took the name Lucifer and became the head of the demonic forces, but still continued to work with Issei. During this time, she lost contact with many people.

In the present day, Rias has become the new leader of the Occult Research Club at Kuoh Academy. She has since then become known as the Crimson-Haired Ruin Princess due to her crimson hair, and is considered to have the greatest power of destruction. She has also been ranked as the school's number-one beauty and was chosen as one of Kuoh Academy's Two Great Ladies, along with Akeno Himejima.

During Rias' time as the head of the club, she came to learn about her old childhood friend Issei being reincarnated into the same school that she was attending, as well as him having lost his memories of their previous life together.

She has a somewhat arrogant and tsundere attitude. Her personality is often characterized by her being stoic, haughty, cold, and a perfectionist. She also tends to be quite blunt about most things. Due to her being forced into the role of the Ruin Princess, she can be very strict when dealing with those she deems weak. Despite this, she does care for the people she loves and wants them to grow stronger. She is shown to be a little more gentle when around her familiar companions and people close to her like her servants or younger brothers.

She is a powerful devil and holds the title of "Devil Princess." She is also the Crimson-Haired Ruin Princess and wields the "Power of Destruction," which is a symbol of destruction and a power used by members of the Gremory family. When using her True form, she takes the form of a crimson dragon.
