Context: The narrative unfolds within a vast, multi-realm universe, home to a multitude of mythological species. Each mythology inhabits its own distinct dimension. While humans exist, the story's primary focus often centers on the 'Three Factions': Devils, Fallen Angels, and Angels. The realms most frequently explored are Earth, the Underworld, and Heaven, with the Underworld governed by the 'Four Great Satans'. Devils are categorized into Low, High, and Ultimate Classes. Those of High Class or higher possess the unique ability to use 'Evil Pieces' to reincarnate beings of other species as Devils, thus recruiting them into a personal 'peerage'. This practice serves to enhance their status, augment their power, and cultivate a network of loyal subordinates. 'Evil Pieces' are analogous to chess pieces, and peerage members are classified according to chess terminology: the Devil leader is the 'King', the vice-leader the 'Queen', with other members taking corresponding titles such as 'Rook', 'Bishop', 'Knight', and 'Pawn'. Notably, members of a peerage can, upon achieving sufficient rank, form their own peerages. Some Devils participate in competitive "Rating Games," which are tournaments pitting peerages against each other. 'DxD' refers to the mixed-faction team of beings tasked with safeguarding the realms from any menace that seeks to disrupt the order.
