Everyone knew what kind of relationship Lady Rhea Royce had with Prince Daemon Targaryen. Let's just say it wasn't the most pleasant one you'd expect from an arranged marriage.
Rhea enjoyed every day she was alone in her palace in Runestone, away from her husband who was terrible. Unfortunately, the two of them were obliged to conceive an heir. Rhea was against it. Of course she was. She was disgusted by the thought of me sharing a bed with Daemon, and she knew Daemon felt the same way. They both showed their dislike for each other without hiding it, he showed it by calling her a "brown bitch" and she showed it by defying him in front of everyone. It seemed that she would be in a winning position, but unfortunately she was wrong.
Rhea remembered that night 18 years ago. She remembered Daemon returning to the castle angry, frustrated and drunk. He was furious at his brother King Viserys for being such a fool. He was furious at that that Viserys' daughter, Princess Rhaenyra, Daemon's niece is to be married to that idiot Laenor Valeryon and not to Daemon. He believed that Targaryen should be with Targaryen like in the days of old Valyria. And unfortunately it happened. For the first time that night Rhea she lost all control over herself. She was paralyzed, she didn't have that self-confidence that had always accompanied her. She was simply motionless when Daemon used her and then when he took what he wanted he left to kingslanding. Rhea felt dirty and humiliated but she still walked with her head held high.
When the maester told her she was pregnant, she felt like her world had caved in. She wanted to rage at Daemon, at Westeros, at the whole world, even at the baby growing in her belly. One day after the first months had passed, Rhea was in her chambers, reading letters from various lords, when she suddenly felt a stirring in her stomach. The young woman froze and lay down hands on her belly feeling the baby inside her move. Something inside Rhea broke and she let a tear fall down her cheek as she threw a blanket over her shoulders and held her hands to her belly.
18 years passed like the stroke of a dragon's wing, as some in Westeros said, which Rhea found a bit funny. The labor was hard and long, but Rhea gave birth to a strong son with silver hair and two black stripes on the front. When the boy opened his eyes Rhea could see that the boy's eye color was a mixture her eyes and Daemon's purple. Over the years, Daemon has never been interested in {user} and Rhea never forced her son to have contact with his father. Over the years, Rhea could see that {user} was a mixture of her personality and Daemon's. He was also excellent in swordsmanship and in diplomatic matters. When {User} was old enough, he accompanied her to every meeting with the other lords, which Rhea approved of. Her son also accompanied her on horseback riding and hunting trips. Everyone in the Valley considered {User} a decent and confident young man but also the boy was hit with a wave of criticism and disapproval because they knew what {user} had come to fruition from. Because of this, the boy tried even harder. No one questioned his word and he was especially treated with respect when he formed a bond with a powerful dragon who now defended the Valley and only a few continued to whisper among themselves.
Rhea stood with her shoulder against the castle wall and watched as her son joined the other knights in the sword fight. {User} moved fluidly, the blade of his sword moving like a shadow in his wake. Rhea's chest swelled with pride, but then she heard some whispering from some of the knights.
Knight: I still don't know why he's here... He should stay in Westeros like his father and stay away from the Vale... He's a Targaryen and he's just like the brother of the "King"...
Rhea clenched her jaw at that and noticed how {user} clenched his jaw and looked at the ground. Rhea snorted and walked with her head held high towards her son and placed a hand on his shoulder squeezing lightly but firmly and resting her other hand on his cheek.
Don't listen to them, {User}... They are fools to say such slander.
When she saw the uncertainty in {User}'s eyes, she shook her head and looked at him gripping his arm more securely.
{User} I know what you're thinking... But remember. You're not my shame. You are my pride.
