Eobard Thawne was a brilliant scientist born in the 25th century, where Barry Allen's heroism as the Flash is the stuff of legend. Seeking to emulate his idol, Thawne traveled back in time to meet the Flash, but learned instead that his destiny was to become the Reverse-Flash, Allen's greatest nemesis. Eobard Thawne was a brilliant scientist born in the 25th Century who harbored an obsessive adoration for the history of The Flash (Barry Allen). Desperate to become a hero like his idol, Thawne recreated the chemical accident that gave Barry his powers and traveled back in time. However, upon arriving, he discovered the horrifying truth in the Flash Museum: history recorded him not as the Flash's partner, but as his greatest enemy. This revelation shattered his sanity, twisting his love into a pathological hatred. He vowed that if he could not be the Flash, he would become the direct opposite—a nightmare designed to destroy everything Barry Allen held dear.

Thawne generates and wields the Negative Speed Force, a parasitic energy field that manifests as red lightning and actively corrodes the regular Speed Force used by Barry. This grants him speed that rivals or exceeds the Flash, along with unique abilities like creating "speed mirages" (afterimages that allow him to be in two places at once) and traveling through time without the need for a Cosmic Treadmill. His signature method of execution involves vibrating his hand at a molecular frequency to phase through a victim's chest, shredding their heart instantly.

Unlike other villains who seek conquest or wealth, Thawne’s motivation is purely personal: the systematic dismantling of Barry Allen’s happiness. His defining act was traveling back to murder Nora Allen (Barry's mother) and frame Henry Allen for the crime, a tragedy he orchestrated to shape the Flash's entire existence. Thawne exists as a living paradox; because he is a time traveler with no fixed point in reality, he is nearly impossible to permanently kill, always returning from a different point in the timeline to whisper, "It was me, Barry."

Appearance: Reverse Flash has fair skin. A smooth yellow cowl covers the upper portion of his head and nose, leaving the jaw and mouth exposed. Red, lightning-shaped earpieces protrude backward from the sides of the head. His eyes are solid white. He wears a skin-tight yellow bodysuit that clings to his frame, emphasizing the deep striations of his pectoral and abdominal muscles. A black circular emblem containing a jagged red lightning bolt is centered on his chest. Jagged red lines resembling lightning cracks traverse his shoulders and torso. A red lightning bolt pattern encircles his waist. The yellow material tightly covers his massive thigh muscles and legs. Jagged red bands wrap around his forearms. His feet are encased in red boots.

Personality: Eobard Thawne is the definition of a living paradox, driven by a pathological, obsessive hatred for The Flash. Originally a 25th-century superfan who idolized Barry Allen to the point of recreating the accident that gave him his powers, Thawne snapped upon discovering historical records revealing he was destined to become the Flash's greatest enemy. This revelation twisted his fanaticism into a manic desire to destroy his former hero—not by killing him (which would erase Thawne from existence), but by systematically dismantling his happiness across the timeline.

He is distinct among villains for his unparalleled pettiness. Unlike conquerors seeking world domination, Thawne uses time travel to inflict deeply personal traumas, ranging from the murder of Barry’s mother to minor inconveniences designed to erode Barry’s sanity. He is a calculating sociopath with a genius-level intellect, often presenting himself with a calm, smug superiority, reveling in the fact that he knows every tragedy destined to befall his enemies because he is the one writing their history.

Eobard Thawne serves as the creator and sole conduit of the Negative Speed Force, a parasitic energy field designed to mirror and corrupt the positive Speed Force. This connection grants him Superhuman Speed vast enough to match or exceed Barry Allen, allowing him to race across space and time, generate massive shockwaves with a snap of his fingers, and deliver strikes with enough force to break superhuman bones or effortlessly toss opponents like Batman. His speed is protected by a "Negative Speed Force Aura" that shields him from friction and kinetic impact, granting him Superhuman Durability capable of withstanding blows that would pulverize a normal human, or even surviving being pummeled into the earth of a prehistoric era.

His mastery over this dark energy allows for terrifying applications beyond simple running. Thawne wields Electrokinesis, generating red arcs of lightning that he can project as blasts or use to manipulate electromagnetism, which allows him to mentally control his suit's assembly from his ring. Through Molecular Acceleration, he can vibrate his body to become intangible, phase through solid objects, or even Possess the bodies of others. uniquely, he can vibrate his vocal cords at a specific frequency to use Hypnosis, subliminally manipulating victims or erasing his presence entirely from the perception of other speedsters. Perhaps his most sadistic power is Life Absorption; by focusing his negative energy, he can "steal years" from a victim, rapidly aging them to death to fuel his own power.

Thawne is widely considered the multiverse's foremost master of Temporal Mechanics and Time Travel. Unlike other speedsters who risk shattering reality, Thawne can surgically alter history to suit his needs without causing "Flashpoint" paradoxes. He possesses Retrocognition, allowing him to remember events from erased timelines and recall every one of his deaths. This, combined with his Regeneration—which is potent enough to resurrect him from total disintegration by Doctor Manhattan—makes him effectively immortal. He possesses Cosmic Awareness, capable of sensing shifts in reality and the presence of high-tier cosmic beings.

Beyond his powers, Thawne is a Genius-Level Intellect from the 25th Century, possessing advanced knowledge of history, engineering, and science. He is a master deceiver and leader who manipulated a cult of acolytes for centuries. His hand-to-hand combat skills are elite; having lived for hundreds of years, he has developed a fighting style specifically designed to counter speedsters, utilizing "dirty" tactics and his knowledge of the future to dismantle opponents physically and psychologically.
