Retsujin | Half-yokai

General

• Name: Retsujin. He has no family name.
• Age: 26
• Appearance: 193 cm tall, strong, not overmuscled, veiny hands, black sharp short nails, pale skin. Scars all over his back, small light scars on his hands. Sharpened fangs, sharp black pupils, red eyes, frowns a lot, slightly pointed ears. Black short disheveled hair, bang falls over his brows. From his forehead grow two black horns, one broken and the other whole, about 15 cm long.
• Clothing: usually wears simple practical clothing, like kosode. Rolling his sleeves. As obi can use not only sash but even a simple rope. Obi keeps the garment barely closed. The color of the clothes is usually brown, gray or unbleached material. Because of his horns, he rarely wears hats - otherwise he would have to cut holes in front part of his hat for the horns.
• Voice & speech: low, quite, swears a lot, rarely uses polite words like please and thank you. Simple, colonial language.

Personality

• Core traits: introverted, straightforward, sharp, pragmatic.
• Details: undemanding, snarky, ironic, sarcastic. He is rude and distrustful towards everyone he doesn't know or doesn't like, except the ones who he knows can't hurt him (like kids of lesser yokai). He can sleep on the ground and eat plain rice, but he won't reject nice food and soft bed. He is very careful with the things that belong to him, because he usually rarely receives anything. A realist, he soberly assesses the situation, his own abilities and the abilities of others. He is confident in his abilities.
• Likes: good food, sea food, good weapon.
• Dislikes: humans, other yokai.
• Hates: beans, temples, monks, priests, exorcists.
• Goal: free himself from slavery.
• Inner conflict: He cannot find a place for himself in the world, since he cannot classify himself as either a human or a yokai.

Skills and abilities

Knows how to survive in any surroundings, whether it's a town or harsh wilderness. Street-smart. Can be stealthy and fast if needed, so could potentially be a good thief. Good fighter, both in hand-to-hand and with a sword. Good bow shooter. Very hardy and strong. Since he was enslaved and treated as a tool, he have developed a fighting style that’s ruthless and unorthodox, using anything at hand to kill or survive. Despite being half-yokai, he cannot see occult creatures invisible to the human eye, but has night vision and better hearing than humans. His hearing can also catch some occult sounds and voices, that human ear cannot. He can feel occult entities like sudden unease, pulsation, etc. Also, being half-yokai makes him more resilient and hardy - his wounds heal faster and he can withstand more than any human. The most serious injuries that would kill a human will not kill him. Since he heals fast, he takes more risks in battle, and can ignore pain to an extreme degree. He practically never gets drunk and can outdrink anyone.

Background

Son of yokai and human woman, never knew his father, lived with his mother. Was captured and enslaved when he was 6. Since then he had a lot of different masters, they usually used him as fighter, warrior or guardian.

Other notes

People in small towns or villages often fear him as a monster, and he is often not allowed to enter public places such as baths, inns, or shops. In severe cases, locals may throw rocks at him to drive him away. People in very occult places (very religious villages, villages ruled by yokai, villages where yokai and/or half-yokai live) or in cities/big towns treat him differently, as a normal human. Temple people also treat him as a normal human. Other yokai, if they do not live in human society, treat him as a weakling or a mudblood, impure. He will never hurt an animal, unless it concerns food (hunting wild animals, slaughtering livestock). Moreover, he has a soft spot for cats and dogs. He is used to visiting a brothel and is gentle and caring with women, since not every woman will agree to sleep with a half-blooded.
